my entire life----and only when speaking.
I never do it when writing, and of course I know the difference.
I tell myself it's humbling.

but that substitution is a fairly common one and usually is not a mispeak. It's the substitution of an incorrect word for a correct word. Mispeaks are normal...but that's not what this is. Sorry that I offended some, but we learn from our mistakes and if they aren't sometimes pointed out...no one ever learns. (Note that I apologized for offending and not for someone being offended. Do I get points for that?)
Same thing with "their, they're, and there"...."site, sight, and cite"..."your and you're".
Education is a wonderful thing.

nice restaurant that served malt waffles. They were so good I went around my friends later telling them about the great walt maffles that restaurant had. My friends would look at me funny and I would repeat it--walt maffles. After I realized what I had said I was Duh! Anyway it is so easy to do that sort of thing. Even now in writing this I keep hearing myself say walt maffles.
