Serious rain in Los Angeles in the end of MAY?!
No, I'm not complaining: our weather is mild by definition, and we could certainly always use rain, even if we're way over our quota for this year. So many other places are truly suffering.

Yeah, I'm an idiot for not pressuring my spaz roofer to fix our ongoing problem, but I'm not sniveling for sympathy; I have a roof, which is harder and harder to come by in this mean modern world, and we'll sort out the current problem.

I'm merely slack-jawed at the length of the season. Things are not right. Things are not right everywhere. We are too big for our britches and have messed up our generally predictable mother earth.

Yikes.

Rain past early March is very rare here, for those who don't know.

Hey, as a transplanted New Englander, I love the cool weather, and weeks of being in the sixties are just fine by me, but the disruption of something like this feels very dangerous.

It's real. Things are changing.

The forecast is for an inch tonight. In a world where 14 inches is the norm, with the season usually being from October to February, this is weird. Last night was fairly steady.

1. It's raining and cool here (Sonoma), too.
The growers (grapes, etc.) are starting to freak.

Climate Change, what Climate Change?

2. Raining in San Jose too
Feels almost like a winter day today. I love it, but it is weird for this time of year.

Even stranger for the desert climate of L.A. though.

8. I'm up in the east hills.
This rain is bizarre but I'm happy for it. Maybe cut down on our grass fires this year.

11. Probably the opposite...
The grass will grow now and dry out later...

early April. Traditionally, April and May are the hottest and driest months with the monsoon starting in June!

4. Moved from SoCal to Portland... I understand we've been setting rain records up here too...
... for the beginning of the year. And you know Portland already has a reputation for raining a lot.

Starting to finally see a few days in between here and there that are just getting in the 70's randomly between other days of rain.

When I put on my warm coat today I was thinking "It's May!"
How can it not be in the low 70's at least? Ya, things here are changing. Much as I love cool, overcast weather, it's better when it's appropriate.

7. I'm more amazed at how unseasonably cool/cold it's been for, oh, the
PAST YEAR here.

9. The puddles froze over on Thanksgiving Day.
That's never happened once in the 20 years we've had this place. It doesn't freeze in San Jose in November or in any other month.
