Is Newt going to drop out?
He has gotten off to a horrible start. I really think he may just drop out.

Pretty soon they are going to be running Daffy Duck.

1. When, not if.

2. Unfortunately, I think so.
I'm hoping somebody else will step in to fill the void. The entertainment value of the Republican runup will be unbearably boring without the likes of Trump, Santorum and Gingrich to keep the laughs rolling.

3. I would be surprised if Daffy Duck doesn't have a D after his name.
He won't run as a Republican.

As for Newt, I suggest a pool. Can't see him making it to Iowa.

4. Pool. Nice idea. I pick May 21 around brunchtime.
Newt's personal Armageddon, if you will.

6. You think he might get raptured?
He is a new convert to Catholicism.

Next he will probably join Opus Dei. But I don't think they believe in Rature stuff.

9. Newt raptured? Now that's funny.
Permanent banishment from political life is almost the same thing for Newt, though. He's a junkie and needs an intervention.

12. So who is the Republican cartoon?
I know. Felix the cat. A psychopath with good hair.

He could be from Texas.

5. Lawrence O'Donnell said it best: Newt may do a few more appearances
speeches and fund raising, but when it's all said and done, history will note that his "run" ended last Sunday on MTP. Ha!

7. It was a very short run.
Too many people remember way too much about him.

He has a pretty high "ick" factor.

8. I don't know...
It seems kind of common on the republican side that politicians think they should end their political careers by "going out on top" by becoming president. Dole displayed the, "It's my turn!" attitude in 1996. McCain has become increasingly bitter since first losing the nomination to the idiot Bush in 2000 and then the election to a relative newcomer in 2008. Newt loves being in office, and the only thing that will satisfy his ego since resigning (when he became incredibly unpopular in his own party for seat losses and with the country for going after Clinton) is to move up in position, and winning the presidency would be like expunging the past for him, a way to get revenge on all the people he feels wronged him, "making him" resign.

And he's 67. He probably thinks this is his last shot so he has to take it.

Maybe he already has dropped out and we just haven't had time to hear about it.

14. I'm thinking of running.
I have good hair.

I love everybody.

And I will never be caught banging the maid.

16. The maid's safe, but what about the pool boy?
Hmmmmm?

Yeah, Newt seems to have gotten off on the wrong foot. For someone with a conscience and a sense of shame, this might be curtains, but Newt could brazen it out for a surprisingly long time. If he's still going by Memorial Day, I predict he'll be running come 2012. The shock for Gingrich is probably not so much that people remember his past, but that he's getting so much static from his own party. However, in the Standard Media Narrative, this public cannibalism is good news for Republicans.

19. That would break my heart
I want him to fulminate and bloviate and snarl as he viciously attacks and distorts in a full-on Joe McCarthy ugliness and get thumped on over and over again, holding on well past any hope.

There are very few public figures as morally ugly as this man; he's literally a more despicable organism than Tom DeLay, and that's a damning thing to say.

Hang in there Newtie! Finish your public humiliation with operatic gusto!

21. Of course he will.
He'll pretend right up until the very last minute, just as every other failed candidate does. This time around, Newt is faceplanting rather spectacularly, right out of the gate. It won't be long now.

And this'll be his last attempt, I believe.

I'm bummed because it seems they are running out of doofus candidates. They really should have spread the doofus' (or is it doofae?) out over a longer period.

25. Oh, that is way harsh.
He's a changed man now, you know. Got religion.

He was just so patriotic in the past that he had to have multiple affairs to burn off all that additional passion he had for his country.
