13. Got it! lol Well, some people do like to cut their nose to spite their face
It's self-defeating, but very helpful to the Repubic Party.

I was debating one on Huffpo who claimed she was a card-carrying Democrat for 26 years...but decided to join the TeaBaggers. Um...how do you go from being a Democrat to a TeaBagger? Don't you become either an Independent or Republican first?

When she claimed she joined the TeaBaggers because she's concerned about the state of this country, that it was about jobs, the deficit, spending, blah-blah-blah, I listed why she was never a Democrat, because if she were, she would've known the choice she made was as stupid as Palin.

12. Eisenhower was actually more liberal than many Democrats today.
But clearly the New Democrat movement comes more philosophically from the Republican Party (without the tea party nutjobs) tradition. I'm convinced that is why change was so hard even when we had both Houses of Congress and the Presidency.

a third party that has no fucking realistic chance of winning is being true to principles. What principles, repeatedly and viciously hitting one upside the head with a brick? Now, a request will be made to ban you for calling out a DU member, even if you did not name one.

29. The problem (as has been mentioned thousands of times before)...
...is that our party, since at least the formation of
the DLC by Clinton and others, has been on a steady
march to the Right. They claim that this allows them
to win elections.

We claim that this makes the elections meaningless
since we're still getting the policies that Republicans
would have supported only a few decades ago.

This situation cannot continue. At some point, the
Democrats must stop moving Rightwards or their
existence itself becomes meaningless. But the
Party doesn't respond to gentle persuasion so at
some point, the democratic (sic) electorate will be
forced to use the only weapon available that is likely
to actually be noticed by the Democratic Party leadership:
the denial of votes.

I believ 2010 was the first real rumblings of this. And
I don't believe that 2012 will see a quieting of those
rumblings. Certainly Obama's not doing anything to
satisfy/pacify the Left.

37. Of course not.
They weren't good for my own New Hampshire, either.

But neither is the steady Rightward drift of the Democrats
good for any of those places either.

As someone said, would you rather be slowly killed or just
have it all over in one fell swoop? That's the choice we're
being offered by the choice between the ever-more-Republican
Democrats and the ever-batshit-crazier genuine Republicans.

Ultimately, there's got to be a change. And either way, there's
likely to be a lot more pain before it gets better.

33. The real and countable problem are those who claim to be
Democrats who actually vote for Republican candidates and issues when they want to. The 'Reagan Democrats' they have been called or 'moderate centrists'. These are the 'Democrats' who run from a candidate who is 'too liberal' and vote for the GOP, these are the 'Democrats' whose votes elected Arnold in CA and then passed Prop 8. Take a look at how many people voted both for Obama and Prop 8, then look at how many voted for a 'third party' and get your priorities in line. The folks I am speaking of elected Reagan twice while claiming to be Democrats.

Your sense of entitlement is appalling. If Democrats want to make sure voters don't vote for a third party. Act like a Democrat. Get a spine. Fight for what you claim to believe in. Caving in to Republicans and expecting people to vote for you then complaining about it is just pathetic.

49. I just call them "fed up".
There are people who have been Democratic Party members for decades who have been frustrated with the leadership ever since Bill Clinton came on the scene. The attacking of labor, the attack on social programs, etc...these all have ramifications on party loyalty. And they should....a party is meant to represent the interests of it's supporters, not the other way around.

Calling them "Palin" democrats just alienates more people, when you should be trying to renew their interest. It's counter-productive.

Edited on Thu May-19-11 02:18 PM by robertpaulsen
I say lower the bar to squash those fascist tendencies. Switch "always" to most of the time, or even half of the time. You'll find quite a few "Democrats" who fall within that category ripe for a primary challenge in 2012. So make sure you keep your Democratic Party registration current if you want to participate in keeping the Democratic Party the way it should be: true blue liberal!
