Newman mom takes school to task for son's weight gain
NEWMAN, CA - A Newman mother blames her son's school for allowing him to eat too much food and gain weight.
Stefani Stacy said she makes a nutritious lunch for seven-year-old Christian to take to Hunt Elementary School in Newman. She explained she wants to make sure the child eats healthy because relatives on both sides of his family have diabetes.
"I always make sure he doesn't get too much sugar and too many carbohydrates," Stacy said.
But despite her concern, the first grader has gained 15 pounds since last September. "He was eating breakfast at home and buying another breakfast, snacks and lunches almost everyday at school," according to Stacy.
She said he was using a food card provided by the school. Recently she discovered a bill for the card in her son's back pack.
