Remember, this rapture stuff is not something commonly believed by all Christians. Most mainstream Christians felt this was an embarrassment on our faith.

Harold Camping, It's 6:01 P.M. in U.S., Now What?

By Michelle A. Vu | Christian Post Reporter

Around the world, time zone after time zone, people – nonbelievers and Christians alike – have tweeted that they are still here on Earth and no predicted apocalyptic earthquakes occurred. Now, the so-called doomsday has arrived on Camping's own turf.

"Either the rapture isn't happening or all of New York City is going to hell," tweeted rachelfairbanks.

<<<<snip>>>>

Christian radio broadcaster Harold Camping, 89, had predicted that the rapture would take place on May 21, 2011, at 6 p.m. based on time zones. Not many people took Camping's claim seriously, including workers at his Family Radio. But some of his devout followers emptied their bank accounts to pay for ad campaigns warning about the day.

Among his followers on the East Coast is the family of Adrienne Martinez, 27, who decided not to attend medical school after she listened to Camping on Family Radio. Martinez and her husband, Joel, quit their jobs and moved from New York City to Orlando to spend the last supposed year they had on Earth reading the Bible, distributing tracts and spending time with their two-year-old daughter.

"We budgeted everything so that, on May 21, we won't have anything left," Adrienne told NPR

1. Yes. I believe it's all bullshit.
Nobody raptured us while we were having fun at Pump it Up (a birthday party jumping zone)

14. Nor at the wine-tasting party we attended late this afternoon.
We're all fine. Nobody even drank enough to get drunk!

2. My aunt and uncle did something similar back in the 90s
Back when the loonies tried this before. They sold their house, went to Texas with a bunch of people from their church and sat in a field for two weeks waiting, then gave up and drove back to Washington state and rented an apartment.

They bought into it hook, line and sinker. Some people are just hopelessly gullible. The GOP refer to them as the 'base.'

8. I think that Adrienne Martinez should be visited by social workers.
She's not qualified to be anybody's parent.

9. Jehovah's Witnesses did it
Several times, the last "actual" prediction was in 1975. Many of them also sold their homes, spent all their money going door to door preaching how the end was near so you had better join their group if you wanted to be saved! Well that turned out just like Camping's prediction, a total bust, and all those who sold everything had to start all over from scratch. This is simply crazy ass people making things up and other crazy ass people believing it! To this very day JW's believe the end is "just around the corner", but they don't come out with "actual" predictions of any date anymore. Seems like over zealous religions attract very gullible people, much like the republican-tea party seems to do!

I am waiting for the Glen Beck "end of days" prophecy where everyone but the die hard "Beckerheads" will perish, while Glen and his band of merry little morons will dominate the earth!

12. But...but...but...
Remember, this rapture stuff is not something commonly believed by all Christians. Most mainstream Christians felt this was an embarrassment on our faith.

...don't all Christians believe in the rapture, and thus aren't they all just as crazy and evil? I mean, it must be true, because I've seen lots of people posting that on DU today!

:sarcasm:
