Need a little advice about moving companies
So, I'm relocating from Oklahoma to Ohio for a job. I have a moving stipend, so I'll be reimbursed for expenses related to getting my stuff and myself to Ohio. I'm not moving very much, so a Uhaul doesn't seem to be worth the headache. PODS is extremely expensive. When I moved from Los Angeles to OKC, I got a company to put all my stuff on a pallet...unfortunately, I can't remember what the name of that company was, or even how to look it up online.
Can anyone give me any suggestions?
Thanks a bunch!

1. I just moved with Upack and it was dreamy
It was flawless and very low pressure. It's the same idea as PODS, but cheaper and doesn't come with a bad reputation. I had 5 days to load, 2 day delivery and 5 days to unload. I called the minute I was done and the truck was there within a few hours to pick them up.

3. I worked for Mayflower in the summer of '69 in D.C.
If you don't have much to move, what's wrong with U-haul? Pack it yourself, balance the load, drive carefully, save money.
At the old job with Mayflower, the workers didn't really care about people's stuff. When the truck came into the warehouse to be weighed, dozens of guys would come stand on the scales. My driver would stop at the liquour store for Cold Duck, then park the truck, open the side door and sit on a couch and drink. The good old days.....

6. The gas is outrageous...
at the moment, so going up and down the hills of Oklahoma and Missouri will cost me a fortune. Plus, I have to move my car. So, it goes one of two ways: either my husband, me and the dog cram in the cab and we tow the car; or, one of us drives with the dog, and the other (likely my husband) is stuck driving in the Uhaul. Neither scenario is desirable, considering our dog is quite large.
I don't have much breakable stuff, and that which is breakable will fit in a box that will go in my car.

And what the hell is Cold Duck, may I ask?

12. That was then
Today they would be fired for all of that, in the days of background checks, health screening and the nature of Mayflower Corporate, that would not fly anymore. Best advice I could give anyone planning on moving. NEVER PAY ANY MONEY UP FRONT! Clear sign of a scam starting to take place. Cheap is not always the best and will end up costing you in the long run with stress, overcharges. Stick with a reputable company. Check them out at movingscam.com or ripoffreport.com

8. congrats, a la izquierda!
Don't have any advice on moving companies as I've only done the truck rental thing, but I wanted to chime in to say congrats on the new job. Alas, it's not always easy to get Sooner games here in the Midwest, but I'm sure the job'll be worth it ;)

11. I figure I'll have to fight Buckeye fans for space at the bar.
Could be worse. When I was in Mexico, I had to fight Mexican men, in Spanish, to watch the Sooners on one tiny TV, instead of soccer.
And it was at Outback. Blech!

I'm excited for the move. I'm buying a Roku box, and hoping I can stream the games online. No cable for me, I'm going to embrace simple-ish living for a year.

9. There's a little company out of Ann Arbor, a la. Wolverine Moving Lines.
Get your shit there quick as a wink. They know Columbus better than Jim Tressel.

10. Most of those pack n mail stores can help you locate
long/large haul pallet shipping. They can probably even come out and wrap it all up for you.

that is if you still have a pallet or 2 size move.

13. Moving can be stressful. Try and find time to unwind/relax a bit. Good luck.
I haven't any advice except to take care and CONGRATULATIONS on the job.

14. Thanks...
living 700 miles away from my husband, 2 of my dog, and all of my friends will stink. On the flipside, I'm closer to my family, I have some very dear friends in VA, and I'll be making adult money, not grad student money.
