the complainers ofter defend the status quo the most. At my last (horrific) job in a(n) (awful, right-wing) hospital, the grumblers and whiners about the job were the ones constantly going off about freedom, and Obama's a Muslim, etc. They did me a favor by laying me off and I got a better job, but still...
PS- edited to add, this sounds like the same old shit conservatives were giving against Medicare forty-plus years ago...

2. I'm not sure that the premise of this cartoon is accurate. |
|
If you have group health insurance with your employer, under HIPAA if you get a new job with group health insurance they are required to cover you and your family immediately, without regard to pre-existing conditions.
The big problem is if you lose your job and exhaust COBRA, which is what Obama's reform (which I support) addresses.

from when you start the job. I had to shell out an extra month of COBRA due to that.

6. But in the cartoon, she wants to start her own business.... |

...the "portability" part of HIPAA is a tenuous threat for families and singles alike.

7. Agreed. Switching from one employer to another is OK, but starting your own business is a problem. |
|
Which is also addressed by Obama's reforms.
