I didn't serve in the Military, but I damned sure respect the people who have...the ones who came home from duty, and the ones who didn't.

A local church is one of my clients, and they recently asked me to take photos and shoot video for the funeral of a local Marine killed while on watch in Afghanistan.

Several impressions hit me that day, and hit me hard.

First, the impact this had on his family and friends, assembled in his honor.

Second, his character in and out of uniform (his mom had put together a slide show, with music, that was one of the most emotionally powerful things I'd ever seen).

Third, the assertion...repeated several times during the service, by the pastor as well as his friends and family delivering the eulogies...that he knew what he'd signed up for, he knew there was a chance he might not make it through his tour of duty alive...and he willingly and enthusiastically signed up to serve his country regardless of that.

Palin's manner of serving her country?

Quitting her term as governor at the mid-point so she could sell books, get her face on Fox, and rake in the bucks from the rubes on the public speaking circuit.

As a human being, I have to believe that what goes around comes around.

It may take what seems like forever, and sometimes I may not get to witness it at all, but I look at what Palin is placing in her "Karmic Bank Account" and shake my head wondering when are the pigeons coming home to roost? When will she run out of people to exploit? When will she cross that line that will be the last straw, the one where the American people refuse to give her a forum, to pamper her, to worship her?

Personally, I don't think she's there yet. I don't know what she's going to have to do, I don't know who she's going to have to offend, I just don't know.

And while I feel a sense of outrage over yesterday's events, I can't feel...honestly and right down deep in my gut...the same offense felt by the men and women who have served our country and then witnessed as Palin turned it into a photo op for her own personal gain.

But I can support their right to express their feelings and stand in agreement with them.

I wish I could make it right. I wish that someone could get through to her and help her see and feel what a negative, offensive, odious presence she's become.

And I fear that would only encourage her.

and state they didn't invite her then they risk angering those that do like her. Yes, some do exist and were at the event. She's a citizen too and can show up for events like this if she chooses. Obviously, with her celebrity status, she's going to draw attention just as many others would. That happens everywhere she goes whether she wants it or not.

This is not a partisan political event or group. She didn't talk politics there. It's in the groups own interest to stay out of the partisan stuff. Also, the question of invite or not is not really relevant. The event is a free to all event, anyone can participate.

Lastly, Sarah's participation at least raised awareness for the cause/group. I suspect many have never heard of until now.

So this is one of the few times where I don't care where/what she is doing. POW/MIA is not a partisan issue. IMO, Sarah can be there if she wants to, especially if it helps raise awareness. One of the only times I'll ever be on the same side.

We were sandwiched between the Latin Riders and a group of Christian bikers yesterday - unfortunately the Christian bikers were thrilled that she had turned up.. if the Sgt Major (Ret) hadn't been such a gentleman, I would have been tempted to scream at him! But I have never seen such an attention hog trying to take over what has been a non political rally before. Every time we've ridden (between my husband's deployments) we knew there were a few Senators and Reps, as well as some flag and general officers. But they didn't make a huge deal of it! They rode, in remembrance and celebration of freedom, just as we do.

I think she's tone deaf as HELL. There were some veterans of the Right Wing persuasion there, who were equally angry that she was making this a ME ME ME ME situation. I hope this backfires on her, because what goes around comes around, Caribou Barbie. You may not remember what "service" means - those men and women you disrespected yesterday do!
