Obama Administration getting ready to ditch the Food Pyramid
SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The Obama Administration is getting ready to ditch the Food Pyramid, a symbol of healthy eating for the last two decades.

In its place, officials are "dishing up" a simple, plate-shaped symbol, sliced into wedges for basic food groups and half-filled with fruits and vegetables.

Beside the plate is a smaller circle for dairy, suggesting a glass of low-fat milk or perhaps a yogurt cup.

The revised pyramid is part of the administration's crusade against obesity, led by first lady Michelle Obama.

2. "half-filled with fruits and vegetables"

Mind blowing but true, that's how we should be eating. I switched to a fruit / veggie centered diet a some weeks back and already lost about 12 pounds, and I feel great. I don't feel starved at all.

edit: The most amazing thing I should mention about this diet - you can stuff your face with food literally all day long and not gain weight, so long as its produce. It rocks.

4. that's been my experience too. when my diet was 90% plant-based i was about
10 pounds lighter and it took no effort to maintain. i'd like to eat that way but i have a partner & if i have to buy it and cook it unfortunately i will eat it.

5. Same here. Other things too, this month its money.
I bought a bunch a bunch bike stuff and it cut into my food budget. The produce diet is actually pretty expensive, so I had to do a trip that bought the stables like bread and hamburger. I've found its the fat/carb combo that gets you.

7. An important thing too is to not use a "platter"
When my husband was diagnosed as diabetic, we started using "salad" plates instead of "dinner" plates:)

Tricking the eye helps too:)

6. Food stamps for a family of three in Texas are $27 a month. Not much fruit on that plate.
Not a lot of yogurt cups either.

14. Forget the pyramid, try eating on only $1.50 a day. We tried
recently as part of the "Live Below the Line" poverty campaign. It's tough. You will definitely lose weight!

You can forget that Starbucks -you don't want to blow several days allotment on a coffee drink...
