Dammit!
Just took a quick trip to the grocery store. There are often card tables set up by the entrance, community groups of one sort or another, Girl Scouts often set up there, so does D.A.R.E. I was expecting it to be one of those and I prepared to use my standard "people on Social Security don't have money left at the end of the month" response. But this is a new group, and they are soliciting donations to help severely disabled veterans find appropriate housing. So I stopped to talk with them. I have no money to give them, my checking account has exactly 44 cents in it until my check arrives later this week. I suggested that they'd have a bit more success if they set up during the first week of the month instead of the last, then was surprised to find myself choking up a bit.

What the hell kind of country requires this kind of begging on behalf of its veterans?

Dammit!

1. Remember that next time you hear some repuke blather on about "blah blah blah support the troops"
The troops are only useful to them as long as they're overseas killing brown people. :eyes:

4. Something like 15% of this country is now of food stamps, 54 million people are
Edited on Tue May-31-11 03:56 PM by RKP5637
in poverty, many are severely under employed from original jobs, homeless numbers continue to increase, many children go to bed hungry, people dieing for lack of medical treatment, something like 37th now per WHO on quality of healthcare in this country, yet 2X the cost of healthcare, failing schools, on and on.

IMO it's a severely failing country for many. It doesn't have to be this way, but those on the take love it this way and I seriously wonder just what it's going to take for the US to get its act together on behalf of people. Yet, we will fund the MIC with hoards of money and continue our inane wars. And lavish money on the greedy and outrageously wealthy as we continue trickle down voodoo economics.

And people like Palin will get top billing by MSM as potential candidates.

In short, it's all really F'ed up.

I sure hope the youth are paying attention, because at this rate many are going to have a very very dismal future.

6. It's a long standing tradition in the US
To pay lip service to our service folk and forget them when they no longer further a cause.

Dates back to the Revolution. WWII veterans probably got the best deal, and look what happened, the nation took off.

7. Don't forget the old bumpersticker:
"I long for the day when schools have all the money they need and the Air Force has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber." It's been around for YEARS.

Oh, and if the fraudulent clowns from DARE need to collect money, tell them they can fuck off for me, please? No, seriously. DARE is designed specifically to misinform children and hurt families. Narcs are Satanspawn.
