? for women of DU: How would you feel if Palin or Bachmann won the presidency? |
|
Would a small part of you be happy that a woman finally broke the glass ceiling of the presidency? How would you process a Palin or Bachmann victory? Would you find yourself rooting for them?

I can decipher the delicate balance of differences. The reality is that there is enough SHIT to sling at them that's not related to their lady-parts and making it about their lady parts is wrong, petty and totally irrelevent.

in 1979, when Maggie Thatcher became Prime Minister.
I can still remember my despair and fury. Though just a teenager then, I already had a pretty accurate guess as to how awful she would be (though mercifully not how long she would stay). I can tell you that there was NO sense of being glad that a woman was finally PM, not if it was her.
I'm female by the way!
ETA: And even Maggie wasn't as bad as either of those two would be!

Why are you asking only women? Are our brains that much different?
I don't vote for vaginas or penises, I vote for and support intelligence. I hope that answers your question.
On second thought, I understand your confusion. When Hillary lost the nomination I did see a lot of insanity on the vagina bearing Hillaryites that vowed to destroy (then Senator) Barack Obama's campaign by voting for (McCain) Palin. Believe it or not, there are just as many moronic women in this world than men.
I retract my opening sarcasm.

That was the same I said about americans in 1999-2000 when GWB was on a ticket... America are not THAT stupid to elect the most stupid of the two candidates...
And then they managed not just to elect him once (who could have been an accident) but in fact elected the man twice...
So, Im not suprised if they managed to elect the worst of the candidates in 2012.. Everything is posible in US this days... EVEN to elect peopole who are clearly mental candidates, or outright pscykopaths who should have been in a mental institution for the rest of their natural life.

The "win" he got in 2000, was indeed a disepoint for most of the world.. It was quiete a shooc to discover that many americans, clearly wanted mr stupid as their next president. I was sure Al Gore had won - 8 hour later, clearly it was not the case..
But of course, if sept 11 had never happend, mr Stupid would have been run out of office, and DC by 2004 thats for sure. He might even got down in history as one of the dumbest president in US history.. Even for the right wingers.. The whole affair around 11 sept 2001, was something GWB, and his Administration was using, for all 8 year when they was in power.. And the AMERICAN public was pretty good at going scary too...

If we should belive the peopole who supported GWB, he wa elected by a landslide.. And the iregularities, as in FLorida where they managed to play a game with ten of thousands of woters before the supreme cort desided GWB won, even tho ten of thousands of woters never got counted, and a lot of the paper documents after that, destroyed so all evidence about vote fixing could be proven for the world...
The second time, in 2004, it was a lot of iregularietes there too.. In some states the iregularities was clear as the day, in other states, the iregularities was less clearly, but specially whit the machines, it was cleary a form of voting scandal.. And a lot of this, are not been fixed, and would not be fixed before election in 2012.. SO IT IS set to be posible rigged as we speak...

Frankly, the fact that they are women is the ONLY reason we are talking about them at all. They are equally as awful as, and likely worse than any of the other Republican candidates.
If anything, they make the other candidates look reasonable and intelligent in comparison. But no Republican candidate is either. If ANY one or combination of Republicans is "selected" over President Obama in 2012, then I will know that all is truly lost in this US of A. And I will not want to be in the US of A. At all.

apples and oranges
Im not a woman, but I would say that if Palin, or Bachmann or someone else of the extreme right wing womans ever managed to get a hold in the White house, as President, It wil ruin every chance of a woman ever get elected to the White House as a president ever again.. The two womans as it is, have destroyed more for womans, with their actions, for woman in US, that a man ever would have been able to do...
Woman like Backmann and Palin have destroyed or ruined at least 30-40 year work of woman rights in the US.. And that in a country, where many woman deside to be a home-wifes when they married, becouse womans duty is to keep an home tidy and children safe...
They scare the hell out of me at least, with their madness.. If they ever tried to be elected to a office in most of Europe, they would have been put into a mental institution becouse of a mental problem.. In fact I belive they would have been couth long before they ever could have been a "rising stars" in GOP.. if they was in Europe.. For all our faults, most country's in Europe do have knowlegde about mad men/woman rise to power.. And to get them out of sirculation before they do..

Not only because of the damage they'd do, but because of the final proof that my country was nothing more than the outpost used by hell to quarantine their intolerably stupid contingent.
Seriously, that's pretty much what we are already.

President wasn't a Democrat. But Palin and Bachmann only have a chance if they first launch a smear campaign like what was done to John Kerry by the Swiftboaters and then cheat on the elections like George Bush did.

Neither of these women are pro-women. They would not be breaking a glass ceiling, they'd be reinforcing it with their anti-woman, anti-family policies.
A person my have ovaries, but that doesn't make them automatically entitled to support from other Ovary-Americans, donch'a know? ;-)

When we have our first female president, I want her to be someone I can be proud of and identify with: someone intelligent, classy, well-spoken, authoritative, a good decision-maker, etc.
Palin or Bachman would be an embarrassment to my gender. I'd rather have a talking horse in the White House than either of those two bimbos.

I cannot root for anyone, male or female, who wants to deny me my right to choose - MY right to have the last word about what happens within the most private and intimate parts of my own personal private body. Any woman who'd do that is a traitor to her gender.
And that's only for starters. I can't think of ANY reason to vote for either of these pathetic excuses for "female solidarity." But then when you start looking at things like their intellect (or widely and clearly demonstrable lack thereof), where they stand on economic issues, social issues, foreign policy issues - BLEEEAACCHHHH!!!!!! :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:
I can't find ANYTHING redeeming in either of them. NOTHING. Uh, okay, they're females like me. And that's about the only thing we have in common.

or the potential presidency of Herman Cain?
When will identity politics come to an end.
Its the person. Not the gender that matters.

110. Well, it would confirm the old test: |
|
True equality will be achieved when the female jerk is promoted right along with the male jerk.
Otherwise, no part of me would be happy. In fact, I'd probably lose my lunch. I'd certainly despair for this country and maybe the world.
Finally, I don't do identity politics. Because I'm white and a vet doesn't mean I rooted for McCain.
