Bill Moyers on Jon Stewart said that journalists should be there the news is going. That is what DU
means to me. It is ahead of the news cycle and I so enjoy thinking raw information through with all of you. What do you like about the DU?

1. DU is a great portal to quality resources, news, activism initiatives, and more.
Nothing, no other website, even comes close to DU as a resource.

And no other site has anything near as good a user interface and format.

9. Agreed. It is THE resource for the renaissance mind.
Politics isn't the half of it.

2. "raw" information is fine, but if it is not actually sourced (i.e. twitter) then it is
really just worthless.

Hopefully DUer's will start learning that twitter is NOT a source, and is HIGHLY vulnerable to hacking by freepers and the like.

Good riddance, twitter.

5. Yup. As long as it is good information DU does a good job of getting to the heart of the matter.

4. DU is the Gretzky of websites,
to borrow Bill Moyer's excellent analogy. ;)

7. I like the power of the forum. It is self-correcting. A conglomeration of minds.
I've always been impressed by how someone can post something they are sure is true, and then someone (or several people) will post with what they know is the truth. Very quickly wrong information will be corrected.

And the variety of perspectives is of great value.

8. Much of what all the above posters have said.... plus this;
On DU, no one is banished for merely expressing a rational opinion. They have the opportunity to defend it, within particular parameters whose only meter is 'Democratic'. I would love DU to support a 'pillar debate' forum where any two challengers from any ideology could contend in the realm of reason over any issue at all. Unfortunately, I am well aware of how the right-wing views things like 'reason' and 'logic'.

I do love that DU does its best, mostly on the shoulders of moderators who have to deal with assholes like me on a daily basis, to keep reasonable debate and discussion alive.

I may have, and most certainly will have (as some mods are aware), particular issues that are better handled than abandoned, and what can be weighed gently (hopefully), or otherwise.

I like DU for that... despite how, for the moment, ambiguous it may seem.

It won't be for long.

10. It amazes me what people don't know
when I talk current events with them! They think I'm a conspiracy theorist. Then a day (or two or three or a month) later they're all talking about it as it's trickled down the news cycle. :eyes:

DU is an amazing information site. There is no site on the web better for liberal and progressive news.

14. I didn't think Jon did a very good job interviewing Bill though....
Jon always try to "out smart" his very intelligent guest...... bugs me sometimes, the interview could have been so much better.

13. Yes this is a good place to get ahead of the news
but the trolls are making it hard to find news as such. This week it weinergate, next week flavor is, 'who knows'. Weed the trouble makers and the trolls out and this would be like it used to be. Which was the best place on the Internet for keeping up with whats actually happening that affects us as a group but now we seem to go from one "gate" to the next. Its not the true progressive that go there either.
