Pro-Radiation Lobby Wins Right to Scan all Air Travelers
http://www.allgov.com/Controversies/ViewNews/Pro_Radiation_Lobby_Wins_Right_to_Scan_all_Air_Travelers_110520

Within three years, most airline passengers in the U.S. will have to pass through full-body scanners before boarding planes, exposing them to radiation levels that the government says are safe but that some scientists have questioned. The move towards scanning and away from profiling is largely the result of the so-called “radiation lobby,” which features a former top Bush administration official who has been peddling his experience and contacts as a lobbyist for the manufacturer of the scanners.

Michael Chertoff, former head of the Department of Homeland Security, has been pushing hard for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to put body scanners in all U.S. airports. His efforts have come on behalf of Rapiscan Systems, builder of the 900 machines on order from Washington.

Chertoff has teamed up with American Muslims to denigrate the use of profiling by TSA to spot would-be threats, while touting the effectiveness and safety of Rapiscan’s product.

1. just the name "rapiscan" is grotesque, but the whole thing is disgusting
unfortunately, short of out-right revolt by everyone who needs to go through security, there seems to be no way to stop any move like this from the gestapo.

Rape Scan. We've got to get someone's attention on this. THis is about power and money. That's ALL this is about. Nothing to do with keeping us safe.

5. Where are the anti-Nuke people on this?
These machines are more dangerous to more people over time than a shut down nuclear power plant halfway around the world.

7. This article offers zero corroboration for its claim that...
all travelers will be required to pass through the scanners within three years.

More alarmist nonsense.
