Update: Edwards indicted - NBC reporting. Breaking |
|
Edited on Fri Jun-03-11 09:06 AM by Stinky The Clown
Old headline for this post: NBC's Lisa Meyers reporting Edwards rejected governemnt plea offer. Indictments may come as early as this afternoon.
In a back story cited in the same report, many experts see the government as having over reached in the case. Among those holding this view are several former federal prosecutors. Some say the whole thing got very personal.

2. Maybe they did over-reach and Edwards believes they did so he |
|
rejected the offer...they often over-reach.

3. That seems to be the theme. |
|
I have no idea of the facts that support that theory. I have only been peripherally following this, as John Edwards never particularly concerned me one way or another.

6. In situations like this it might be to Edwards benefit to get a trial... |
|
The nuances are hard to show and prove in a court of law. Like you, I don't care about this too much.

4. she said he rejected the plea because it meant he'd have to give up his law license |
|
this is going to get ugly, imo.

5. Obama can't indict bankers or former Republican criminals, |
|
so he goes relentlessly after Edwards.
Hmmmmm! That is how this will look to history no matter what people think at this moment.
At a time when Citizens United allows foreign banks to "invest" indirectly in ads that sway our elections, whatever Edwards did to lose the 2008 election seems rather unimportant.
Is Obama that afraid that Edwards' message about Two Americas will resonate with the public?
There are just so many politicians who get help from unseen friends, and Edwards has already paid a huge personal price, I don't see why the Obama administration has to be so vicious about this.
Edwards mostly hurt himself -- as did Ensign and Gov. Sanders.
Rich people waste money on worse things than this. And the money did not go to Edwards' campaign, it went to his mistress.

7. If Holder would go after the Banksters and BCF |
|
I wouldn't care about this as much as I do.
Edwards is just a petty criminal compared to the real ones that Holder gives a pass to.

Of course, Clarence Thomas is going to get a free pass, as well as all the fat cats on Wall St. who created this financial disaster. Hundreds of evil pigs will continue to break the law with impunity. We know where this justice department's priorities are.
