4. Most shirts that have that crap on them aren't made here. "American" is a brand now. In fact, when |

you look at the really shitty tools at a hardware store or Menards -- I mean the super cheap ones weekend handymen buy -- they have badges that say "American Brand!" or "American Quality!" on them. Still made in China.
Read every label. Every single one. So many people still think icons like Levi's and Wranglers and Gap are made in the USA. I find it sad that people buy these kinds of shirts to wear on the Fourth of July or whatever, and don't even think to look to see where it was made.

6. No shit. I always buy local. |

When it comes to tools and cars for me that includes Canada just because of the long history of co-operation these industries have had across borders. As for tools, always buy to best you can afford. As my dad used to tell me (he has slightly over 1/4 million dollars worth of tools - but he uses them for his livelihood as a saddlemaker), "buy it once."

7. "Weekend handymen" is all most of us can afford to be. |
|
Of course, it's always best to buy American when we can. But as an example, last weekend we had to fix my elderly mom's cement steps so she doesn't trip on them. We didn't have tools to spread and work the concrete. Bills, groceries, gas..... they've all gone up and our income is down right now. ' The better, American-made tools cost literally 2 1/2 - 3 times as much. We're not going to be laying concrete professionally for god's sake and we sure can't afford to hire it done. :-(

9. Of course, you do what you have to do. |

Many people are surprised when their made-in-China Milwaukee sawzall conks out after two weeks of work ("But I thought it was made in Milwaukee!"). If you're expecting to use a tool once, you do what you can.
