After Weiner, will Colbert be next? |
|
With apparently no one in the MSM willing to identify and condemn the smears that Breitbart is committing against liberals, I worry that next on the list will be Stephen Colbert. All the MSM seems to do is to smirk over Weiner's handling of the incident.
Am I just being paranoid, or does anyone else have a bad feeling that Colbert could be a target?
OR, is Breitbart just not "breit" enough to understand Stephen Colbert's subtle but lethal humor?

1. Colbert isn't elected. |
|
So there is no point in attacking him.

3. Sherrod wasn't elected and neither was ACORN or Planned Parenthood. |
|
The RW wants to attack icons of the Left because they have gotten popular. They want to birsmirch them in the eyes of the public...

10. Those organizations are seen to support Democrats or as an attack on Democrats |
|
ACORN is actually believed to have fixed the election for Obama. Yea, I know that is bizarre, but it is their faith.
Planned Parenthood had power, and is a symbol they attack because they want to keep their right wing religious base on board.
Shirley Sherrod was attacked to attack Obama and Democrats, and it worked.
Hurting Colbert doesn't hurt Obama and doesn't hurt Democrats and wold probably be pointless. He would use it on his show and get laughs.
This is all about power, and they will attack sources of funding, sources of credibility, or Icons that will bring their base together and hurt chances of Democrats maintaining power. Colbert doesn't do that.
I think prominent unions or prominent union leaders are a better target. It fits with their general strategy.

24. But Colbert is a leader in the opposition to Republicans. THAT's what they want to destroy! |
|
He is EFFECTIVE. they hate that. They don't want that. They want to get rid of that.He is an important media figure (unlike your union leader who might be on once in a while on a news show).
Get it?

Is anyone stupid enough to take that guy on?
I think the only opponents worthy of him might be the late Samuel Clemens or H.L. Mencken. How does one disgrace a satirist?

5. If anyone could have gone after Colbert |
|
they would have done so after his speech at the Correspondant's Dinner where he made fun of Bush in front of Bush.
Besides there is a big difference in the public's mind between an elected official and an entertainer. Entertainers seem to be immune to pretty much everything and no one gives a shit until it interfers with their ability to be entertaining.

9. I'm thinking of something that would make liberals turn against him. |
|
For instance, I am a former fan of Woody Allen. I view him in a different light today than I did when I was so gaga over "Annie Hall" and "Bananas."
They could frame him in such a way that he would look suspect to a liberal. That was what I was getting at in my OP.

Seriously. I dare them. Colbert's ratings would skyrocket and he'd be in the news every single day.
And, you nailed it with "subtle but LETHAL humor". He'd destroy them.

12. Brietbart doesn't do these videos and stuff himself, |
|
Edited on Fri Jun-03-11 04:20 PM by EC
he gets e-mails from these basement dwellers and future O'Keefe's talking about the great film they have, does he want it? Brietbart says yeah, doesn't look into the viability of said film or do any research, just posts it and then says, yeah as far as he knows it's legit...
The point is - most of his basement dwellers and future O'Keefe's think Colbert is one of them, they don't believe he's making fun of them. So no I don't think he'll be a target.

14. He does at least some himself |
|
He has--or had?--a video out there featuring liberals (at a protest?) saying racist things about Clarence Thomas.
A student of mine used it as an example "proving" that liberals were the real racists.
It was pretty clearly a set-up; the people interviewed were laughing and acting like it was a game--Breitbart was shown handing them the microphone, but the questions he asked weren't shown. Judging from their demeanor, I'm guessing it was something like "what would be the most racist thing someone could say about Thomas?" or some similar set-up.
I was surprised that anyone would be stupid enough to supply easily edited and distorted comments like those, but I guess they were pretty naive.

18. The MSM is already bored with Weinergate. |
|
For all the howling, all they got is one lousy picture of a man, and he's not even naked - he's in his underwear.
Compare with: David Vitter: hiring prostitutes to put him in diapers Larry Craig: Toe-tapping fun in airport bathrooms Mark Foley: Why isn't he in prison for attempted child molestation? Ted Haggard: Homophobic, yet can't resist those male prostitutes... John Ensign, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc.
If all they got on Weiner is a picture of him in his undies, the MSM's already bored and looking back at Republicans - their scandals are faaaaar more entertaining and generate much better ratings!

There has been NO reference to past vitter/craig/foley/haggard/ensign ANYTHING on the MSM with regard to Weinergate. Nuthin'. Nada.
That's my point.

People aren't getting it. The RWingers in this country are bent on destroying the liberals in government and the media and they'll do it in any way possible.
Wake up folks! Saying "it won't happen to Colbert or whoever doesn't face up to what they are trying to do to liberalism in this country.
Let's be serious...please...
