Remember: WE didn't demand that Chris Lee resign.
No one demanded it. He did it of his own volition with no prompting.

Kind of stupid to take revenge against someone for something they didn't do. And there's no hypocrisy in our saying Weiner shouldn't resign!

1. Who's "taking revenge?"
These pictures would have come out either way.

3. Breitbart.
The initial fabrication was intended as "revenge" for Chris Lee's being "forced" to resign.

4. I heard that a couple days ago.
But it's BS. The pictures would have been released no matter what.

9. I didn't realize that
That explains why Breitbart is pushing this so hard. What a sick person he is to try and get revenge for something that no one caused save for Chris Lee.

2. Correct.
David Vitter ("family values") went to a prostitute and didn't resign, why should Anthony Weiner?

8. I certainly don't remember folks here defending Lee
In fact I remember comments like "kick his ass out" and references to repub family values and all manner of criticism of Lee. Not that he didn't deserve it, but if what is being speculated as the truth about Weiner turns out to be the case, its pretty damn difficult to distinguish the two. And, fwiw, there were plenty of folks here salivating at the prospect of Boehner being forced from office if the rumors had panned out about his having had an affair.

I'm disappointed in Weiner. I'm not going to defend what he did. That doesn't mean that I think he should resign however.

10. Well, what DID he do?
I'm not sure I'd defend it or not, because I have no idea what he actually did. All I know at this point is there are a few pictures of him without a shirt on, which he may or may not have sent to someone via Twitter or Facebook. I don't know when they were sent, or even IF he actually sent them. There is an alleged Facebook chat which is meaningless; any reasonably competent computer user could fake up one of those in about 10 minutes. The whole thing stinks of a smear campaign, and would even if it wasn't Breitbart behind it all.

I really don't understand why some people are expressing disappointment in Weiner when it isn't even clear what they are disappointed in him for.

11. he seems pretty contrite and certain he hurt people, including his family
by maintainting what he referred to as "relationships" with other women (secretly, even if they were only online) for as much as three years.

Stupidity is not a virtue. And Weiner has been very stupid.
