Wisconsin Dem chairman sees 'extremely high' chance of Dem Senate takeover
Wisconsin Democratic Chairman Mike Tate said the chances are “extremely high” that his party will regain control of the Senate as a result of recall elections this summer and will then move next year to forcing a recall of Gov. Scott Walker. “We are extremely competitive in all six of the districts where we are challenging Republicans right now,” Tate said on Sunday’s “UpFront with Mike Gousha,” which is produced in conjunction with WisPolitics.com . “We only have to win three, and I'm very confident we'll be able to do that.”

He also said he was confident that the three Dem senators facing recall would hold on to their seats. A Dem victory, Tate said, would serve as a check on what he described as the “abuse of power” by Walker and the Republicans in Madison.

“It would really restore some sanity to government and give a whole population of people more of a voice in what's going on in Madison,” Tate said. Tate estimated $15 million to $20 million would be spent during the recalls. Tate said he believed Walker would also be recalled. The ideal scenario, he said, would be for the recall election to be timed to coincide with the presidential election, as there would be a high turnout.

During the interview, Tate also said Russ Feingold would be the frontrunner should he decide to run for the U.S. Senate, and added U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan's budget plan is likely to be an issue during the coming recall elections.

1. Yes, I think we'll flip the Senate. Hope we do it before Walker gives away all the State Parks....
...to some contributors out of the Dells.

This is the way to build the state party, by having Democrats act like real Democrats and getting ordinary people involved in fighting for change. Republicans must be shaking in their boots.

7. It really was the primary focus at convention. He kept calling it the "2011 Recall Convention"
I am excited about the party as a whole here in WI and ALL of our Democratic reps... just amazing people who really do care. Those Assembly Dems deserve as much praise for their courage as the Fab 14.

10. Usually the non-election years aren't quite as exciting,
but Wisconsin has changed all that.

11. THIS is what made me end up in tears (literally) with Tammy Baldwin on Saturday.
Just the general discussion of how freaking awesome the people of this state and our Democrats are. :)

8. Great job, indeed
And you know something? I don't much care if Mike Tate is giving his base level honest assessment of the Democrats' chances in the state Senate recall elections, or if he's just talking a good game. It's public pronouncements like this that energize the base, give people a project to accomplish, and hope to accomplish something. Our national Democratic leadership might take a leson from this. Sometimes you can call the result you want into being if you get folks interested early.

13. Thank god. I was worried after the Kloppenberg thing
Granted it was probably stolen, but still I thought it would be a landslide.

14. What would ever make you think that race would be a landslide?
Walker has 87% approval with Republicans here and Prosser was 30 points up 8 weeks before the election. He is a sitting judge with 20 years political experience and she was a virtual unknown liberal in a state that went crazy weird teabag a few months earlier.

15. That was a statewide race against an incumbent
and she really was not very well known. There is not a very high turnout for spring elections for judges because a lot of people don't know that much about them. The GOP put a lot of money into it, and considering all of that the vote was pretty close.
