1. Well how about that.
Let's call for an Ethics Committee Investigation into all of them.

5. Nancy Pelosi calls for Anthony Weiner ethics inquiry (more details)
Edited on Mon Jun-06-11 05:05 PM by oberliner
From Politico:

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Steve Israel, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, are calling for an investigation into Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) over the series of sexually explicit conservations and lewd photos he exchanged with a half-dozen women during the last several years.

“I am deeply disappointed and saddened about this situation; for Anthony’s wife, Huma, his family, his staff and his constituents,” Pelosi said in a statement released on Monday night.

“I am calling for an Ethics Committee investigation to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violation of House rules occurred.”

12. I'm deeply saddened that Pelosi isn't smart enough to see through this bullshit
I really thought she was above falling for these creepy tactics.

Maybe she'll wake up when they start in on her.

8. I don't know what that would really do
He didn't lie under oath and nothing he did was illegal, plus the correspondence seems to have come from his own personal equipment.

13. Ethics investigations don't have to show illegal activity. One possible
ethics problem is use of government funded equipment or services to send the messages. Some of the pictures also apparently were taken from his capital hill office. Then you have the series of interviews he gave from his office, admitedly lying about the incident. The ethics rules are pretty strict, at least on paper.

17. Probably to confirm that it did come from his personal equipment
I suspect it'll be a fast investigation to confirm no government computers were used, then it'll be dropped.

26. Yes, they usually have investigations for this sort of thing
and not much comes of it. It will probably look worse if they refuse to investigate, rather than if they just give him the requisite slap on the wrist.

14. Probably doing it as a pre-emptive move...
...before the hue and cry starts.

Hopefully they'll find out that his naughty behavior was limited to what he has admitted, he did not misuse Congressional accounts or equipment, and the women were all of age. Then they will put a reprimand in his file, and that will be the end of it.

15. Email I just sent Ms. Pelosi
Dear Madam,

Just a few moments ago you mentioned via your Twitter feed that you were looking for the Ethics Committee Investigation into Congressmen Anthony Wiener's behavior of late. And I have written to ask you to explain yourself. With all due respect Ms. Pelosi, I find it in incredibly poor taste to draw this into the Ethics Committee. He has broken no laws, and in all honesty has done almost nothing wrong other then be a salacious flirt. He's actions in congress are nothing but exemplary and he is a firebrand for our causes. I find it even more troubling that you would seek to be a leader of our party, yet attack a member over such a inconsequential slight. Had he taken money from donors to pay for any cover up? Has he paid a mistress off for years? Or had a child out of wedlock? NO! Please Madam Speaker, do not sic the hounds on Rep. Wiener, it is unbecoming of a party leader to burn our own at the stake. If you continue along this course of action, in which you seek to attack and invalidate Democratic congressional reps. I would be remiss if I continued to support you with the vigor and spirit that I currently hold. Leaders know when to discipline, and when to let it go. Please, back down from Rep. Wiener. Or if you choose not to then explain why now you seek disciplinary actions, yet refused to look at eight years of criminal activity from the previous administration.
Thank you very much for your time.
