Weiner should resign for one reason.
Either he was sufficiently stupid as to think that behavior such as what he admitted to today would not become public.......

or

He was sufficiently stupid as to think that when it did come out it wouldn't be a firestorm.......

or

He was sufficiently stupid as to think that the press and the right would accept his lame denials and drop it.......

or

He was sufficiently stupid as to think that no one would care about his lies.

Whichever is the case, and trust me, a week ago I never would have believed I'd say this, Anthony Weiner simply isn't bright enough to be a congressman.

These guys (on both sides of the aisle) will just never, ever learn.

1. What friggin BS.. Did he do his job? Yes. Was this part of his job? NO
It is none of YOUR or MY business and should never have become public. With the precedent you want to set, every damned DEM will be open season for some form of manufactured scandal. Not the RETHUGS of course because their very real and serious scandals never elicit any shame. They have no shame.

3. But it did become public and he should have known it would become public.
How could it not, with all the political enemies he has?

If and when men in power stop thinking with their dicks, they'll stop having this particular kind of problem. And not until then.

33. But it did become public, and "Should" doesn't god damned matter anymore
he had a voice, and they silenced it, and its HIS fault.

Will Democrats NEVER understand that this isn't a job, it isn't a game, Its A FUCKING WAR, and he's putting other people at risk with his lies.

9. You really think so? I can not see him being effective after this
The best thing he could do is groom a high quality successor and not run.

8. He should work to find a viable replacement and not run again
Whether we like it or not, his ability to make things happen is gone. Complete the term and then move on. He should also do his best to insure his successor his ready and capable of wining.

Your right, I don't know how his seat would be filled, and I don't care. He has been a damn good Democrat, and a damn good voice for the people and I see no reason for him to be replaced by someone else.

That is the travesty here!

'What about Vitter?' doesn't work for me. People in my ex-state were STUPID to have re-elected Diaper Dave.

What Weiner did wasn't the same. But he lied. He should be too busy to waste time tweeting to females he doesn't even know.

untoward. I say stick with your job and let the voters of HIS district decide who & what they want. BTW, if STUPID is the criteria for being in congress, there's a whole lot of them that will have to go!

25. The last person to resign was a republican.
Of course he was a family values bullshitter. But even with the republican being what he was, Weiner gets no slack from this poster. Weiner must quit.

27. He didn't "post it on Twitter".
He sent it through Twitter to a specific person.

And as that specific person wasn't me or you, or someone who is alleging harassment, I repeat that it is nobody else's damn business.

31. Yes he did. Weiner's own words from today, and I quote.......
"Last Friday night, I tweeted a photograph of myself that I intended to send as a direct message as part of a joke to a woman in Seattle. Once I realized I had posted it to Twitter, I panicked. I took it down and said that I had been hacked. I then continued with that story -- to stick to that story, which was a hugely regrettable mistake......."

What's your argument now? That it was an accident? Sure it was, but it doesn't change the fact that he was engaging in sleazy, sophomoric online sex sheninnigans and got tangled up in his own web. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for me to have a sliver of sympathy for him under the circumstances.

32. Well, good for you
that you have never ever in your entire life done anything that could be dug up by your enemies and broadcast in front of the entire country in order to completely discredit everything you've spent your whole life working for.

Who is asking for sympathy? My point is he did nothing illegal and he did nothing that is any of my (or your) business.

So what justifies calling for his resignation apart from self-righteous, very likely hypocritical puritanism?

I mean come on -- if he was using his "Rep Weiner" twitter to pick up girls, come ON! Couldn't he have at least used anonymous accounts to do this kind of thing?

seriously is sex-ting so freaking out of place with young people? No. Shit I've been on myspace, facebook etc... this crap is so common. I can't see how anyone under 30 will be able to run for office if these type of things make people unelectable and such. Since the Rethugs run the house, it's not like he was doing a lot. He will be a vote for us against a majority. If this is the end of the story he likely will run and win reelection.
