They're voting next week to repeal health care reform. If you don't want it repealed, have you called?

Yes I know it's largely symbolic but have you called to tell your rep you disagree?

Have you called to tell your rep that the reading of the constitution today was a ridiculous waste of their time and your tax dollars?

Have you called to ask them WHERE ARE THE JOBS????

Have you called to ask them to STOP attacking public employees and their unions?

Have you called to ask when our troops are coming home from the middle east?

Have you called to tell your rep to leave Social Security alone?

Did you call to tell them that gavel John Boner has doesn't come close to matching the size of his ego? And how the HELL is that going to help fix the economy, put American back to work and provide health care to its citizens?

Have you called?

2. Interesting idea.
I haven't checked to see if they would listen to a progressive since a court nomination (which they didn't). But I've been getting used to being ignored, so why not?

7. I can guarantee the tea partiers drove the Democrats crazy for the last two years
They never stopped calling.

When they weren't protesting against health care, they were phoning in death threats.

And look what happened.

Yes, we should absolutely harass them with our phone calls.

6. I'd take my blue dog back in a heartbeat
over the asswipe who took his seat.

In a heartbeat.

My blue dog voted for health care reform. The asswipe thinks it's a priority to repeal it.

9. If you have a Dem Rep have you called her/him out yet?
By the way, criticizing reading of the Constitution is a worthless tactic. Better if the Democratic public - anti-war, pro-union, etc. - carrying Obama signs or the donkey kick sign had organized and read the Constitution on the streets simultaneously.

Idiots at message control that the Democratic party and their adherents are, we've ceded the patriotic message to the enemy.

11. So help me out here
I should call my repuke rep and say

Ok you worthless POS, I voted for you last time and if you don't do what you promised to do to get elected I won't vote for you again...

Or

Ok you worthless POS, I didn't vote for you last time and if you do what you promised to do to get elected I won't vote for you again...

I'm not sure either one does any good.

12. You call and tell your rep how you want him to vote
I would advise not calling him a POS or threatening him.

It's called democracy. Whether you vote for him or not, you have the right (and the obligation) to communicate with him.

18. Do you really think that your only option is to verbally castigate your rep?
Offering up solutions... being willing to have a dialog is the best first step.

I've been involved with direct action for decades and confrontation is always the last resort. Perhaps, if there is an issue that you really care about, you should join a local org. If that local org is non-existent, maybe you can start one. And let's say that that org might have a common interest with other local orgs, like a union, then you can hammer out a coalition and you can devise a community outreach campaign and a letter writing campaign. Start writing letters to the editor. If you have community radio, ask for a spot (prepare, prepare, prepare!). You can make an appointment with your rep at his local office when she/he is in town and send out a press release beforehand with all of your talking points with cited facts. Reporters are lazy, if you do their legwork ahead of time, they are more apt to report your point of view.

14. Whether you voted for her/him or not, she/he is still your rep and you, as a citizen
have a responsibility to vent your views.

Better yet, is gathering with like-minded citizens and do a collective action on a specific issue. And maybe branch out a bit and reach out to your community and get them on board. Maybe you could go visit her/his local office when she/he is in town. Or perhaps start a list-serve to keep each other informed about what is going on. If there is a community bulletin board, perhaps in your church or food co-op or local blog, you could post updates about your Reps votes... you know, keep track of her/his promises and what she/he actually does and write letters to the local newspapers.

Or, you could just give up.

16. I do regularly. I get a lot of requests for money from them.
And he also asks questions I can't answer because they have nothing to do with my life or those whom I know. My Rep has a king's seat. No one runs against him. I argue with the local Dems in charge about this, but they do nothing about it.

I do call Sen. Scott Brown all the time along with my rep & Sen. Kerry.
