Some one asked, WHY does our media seem fixed with sex scandals? |
|
Well lets, leave the social control, and puritanical aspects to these stories. Yes they are part of it.
But there is another reason... If you are a producer, you love these stories. They write themselves. Your time spent in production is minimal. Ok, have a few interns, in this case, looking at the web... but really... you are talking about four, five hours, tops, to produce this.
Compare that to oh a real hard nosed investigation like oh Watergate (which today would not happen in my view). That was months, of intense pumping of sources, and really expensive, from a production point of view.
Media companies no longer, really, have a research unit... so of course the car chase\sex scandal\ whatever, are going to lead.
This is on purpose, but this is part of the story that YOUR LOVELY media will not talk about. WHY are they in love with these stories? Well, they almost write themselves.

7. Because the media is fixated on them |
|
and most people follow what becomes the big nooz story.
Granted, with the Rs it usually involves a social conservative, which means hypocrisy is involved as well.

8. Because people (their audience) are fixed on sex scandals |
|
Read a little history and you'll see that people were interested in sex scandals going back to the days of Athens and Rome.

but they are also incredibly CHEAP to produce. It used to be limited to the scream sheets, the REAL PRESS used to mostly stay away from them.
Why I wrote what I wrote. One reason for them is that nooz no longer have research staff... and these are really easy to produce.
As to Athens, having sex with a slave and loyalty to your wife was not expected. Hell, relationships between young boys and grown adults were expected and common... that be a scandal today.
Rome... same thing... so no, not really. Their sexual mores were VERY DIFFERENT from ours.
