"The Birds": Mapping The Global Mass Animal Deaths Graveyard

7. Several measurements.
Here's one:

MIAMI – Nearly one-fourth of the students who try to join the U.S. Army fail its entrance exam, painting a grim picture of an education system that produces graduates who can't answer basic math, science and reading questions, according to a new study released Tuesday.

I probably should have said

drop "educational levels"
AND
ability to reason intelligently.

10. I'm not sure what you mean, "common".
Do you mean in regard to frequency or expansiveness?

All the plotted points refer to occurrences within the last month, so none really speak to the frequency.

4. So, is it your opinion this is a new thing? Or is it just able to be reported and researched and ...
mapped much more easily and accurately?

5. Some lists of significant oil and toxic spills

Bio defense safety concerns: http://traprock.info/focus%20areas/weapons/Biodefense%20Research%20and%20Biological%20Weapons_files/Biodefense%20Research%20and%20Biological%20Weapons.htm

After the Gulf spill, people are more alert to these bird and animal deaths than ever before. Bird and animal die offs may have been going on for decades, it does not matter. It is not a good sign for our health and we should look into this, if not for ourselves but for our children and grandchildren.

Sounds plausible.

snip-

According to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's Media Communication Director, Tom Harvey, it is not uncommon to see dozens of dead birds on this bridge, including the American Coots here.

The Corps of Engineers office at Lake O' the Pines says they are not exactly sure why this happens, but it appears likely the birds are walking or roosting or flying on and around the bridge and many of them probably get hit and killed by motor vehicles.
