Margaret Thatcher Refuses to Meet with Sarah Palin Because She’s “Nuts”
Edited on Tue Jun-07-11 02:31 PM by 99th_Monkey
Source: FireDogLake

Apparently, The Quitter — who’s going to Sudan in July to see the Sphinx in the great country of Africa and generally bolster her learnin’ about furriners – also wanted to sneak in a photo-op stop with the Iron Lady.

PALIN: "I am going to Sudan in July and hope to stop in England on the way. I am just hoping Mrs Thatcher is well enough to see me as I so admire her."

No such luck.

THATCHER (paraphrased): "Lady Thatcher will not be seeing Sarah Palin. That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts."

Would that American M$M would be so astute and selective of their coverage, rather than incessantly pandering to the attention whore named Sarah Palin.

She knows a misquoted fact will get the news coverage for days, and even if it does not help her, it does not hurt her, and guess what, someone else does not get the news cycle.

You being played.

Love your style Sara Palin,

20. The media spent headlines about two people.
Both that are said to not be serious about running for president.

Eating a pizza.

Who is the fool?

And what kind of system must we have for real news to not be available to the population.

And a guy on MSNBC just took a quote from my last post, maximum damage, why do you think that happened, and pointed it at someone else.

And what will be the result of that action.

36. Actually, based on the description and the cause...multiple small strokes
it's probably multi-infarct dementia. Similar but also a little different from Alzheimer's. It's also consistent with what appears to be a more stepwise progression in Thatcher's case just based on her daughter's descriptions.

Like when Germany beat England at football (as usual) and the German chancellor said "We beat you at your favourite game!" and she said "We've beaten you at your favourite game twice.."

Still, parts of the country is still reeling from the old hags draconian policies.

30. Well, the word 'paraphrased' is made up
It doesn't actually appear in the blog, and Thatcher hasn't, as far as I know, reached the stage of talking about herself in the 3rd person (though she did refer to herself as 'we', as in 'we are a grandmother', once). It was a quote from an 'ally' of Thatcher, which you'll see if you follow the links through to The Guardian, but the blog didn't make that clear. That's the trouble with a pseudonym on a blog being used as a 'news source'.

37. You may indeed be hitting the nail on the head.
Linked to the story are Tim Montgomerie and the Thatcher foundation. Even in the days before dementia she would not have been meeting the opposition to elected Heads of State. Certainly not Primary candidates. Blsir does not do it. Major does not do it and Thatcher will not do it.

There was a polite refusal last year. C4P were tripping over their white sheets in excitement of the Screeech meeting the Thatch on the 100th birthday of St Ronnie, it did not happen. It will not happen.

Screech thought putting it in the paper would make it happen. It doesn't work that way.

Palin team crass.

De Klerk is still alive from that era, although I'm sure the screech, aka Bible Spice would have preferred to meet Botha.

46. It'll be Southern Sudan, for a fundamentalist grandstanding opportunity
The largely Christian south of Sudan is getting independence in July from the rest of Sudan (which is largely Muslim). It's been a cause celebre among American fundamentalists for some years - see eg http://cambridge.academia.edu/JonathanAgensky/Papers/316779/Evangelical_globalism_and_the_internationalization_of_Sudans_civil_war .

The south was pretty hard done by, but there's no doubt that certain American evangelical churches gave their support there rather than elsewhere in Africa because one side was Christian, and the opposition was Islamic.

So Palin is forcing herself on the newly-independent nation, to get a photo-op to burnish her fundamentalist, anti-Islamic credentials. That is, if full-scale war doesn't break out first:

South Sudan death toll tops 1,500 - UN

More than 1,500 people have died this year in violence across southern Sudan, the United Nations said, ahead of the region's independence in July.

The underdeveloped region, roughly the size of France, has been beset by violence since southerners voted overwhelmingly in January to separate from the north and form their own nation.

The independence vote was the climax of a 2005 peace deal that ended a civil war which killed about 2 million people. North and south Sudan have fought for all but a few years since 1955 over ethnicity, religion, ideology and oil.

The threat of renewed war grew last month when the north used tanks and troops to seize the contested Abyei region that straddles north and south, overshadowing political instability within south Sudan.

Say what you can say about Margret Thatcher the most divisive and despised politicians in Britain and possibly the world but she knows an idiot and a quitter when she sees one! Lady Thatcher for once is right about this. I guess Sister Sarah is going to the Sudan to see how well a "smaller government" is working out:sarcasm: Gee, If Sarah Palin had an actually functioning brain she would go there to help the people of Darfur not to show off. I guess Europe was out of the question because they kick her out with that fake tourbus BS she pulled last week.

Edited on Wed Jun-08-11 02:33 AM by BlueMTexpat
That poor beleaguered country already has enough problems: Ms Dysfunctional Personified visiting an example of epic dysfunctionality.

http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/TW%20Archive/TW%20Archive_934.html

... If you are a U.S. citizen traveling or residing anywhere in Sudan, you should exercise caution at all times and closely monitor local and international news from reliable sources. Violent flare ups break out with little notice between various armed militia groups and Sudanese military forces, particularly in the Darfur region, along the border between Chad and Sudan, and in areas of Southern Sudan. You should avoid all public demonstrations and political rallies, as even demonstrations that seem peaceful can turn confrontational and become violent with little or no notice. Anti-U.S. and European demonstrations occur periodically, mostly in Khartoum. You should keep a low profile, vary your time and routes of travel, exercise care while driving, and ensure that your passport and Sudanese visa are always valid and up to date.

... The U.S. Embassy in Khartoum provides services to U.S. citizens traveling to or living in Sudan. However, our ability to provide services to U.S. citizens in emergency situations outside of the Khartoum area is limited, and is dependent on security conditions. The ability of the Embassy to provide assistance to U.S. citizens is particularly limited in Southern Sudan and in Darfur. ..."

If anyone thinks that federal resources are being expended on her "family trip" in the US, just imagine what the cost of US Embassy and military resources would be for having to "keep her safe" in Sudan.

That is, if she's able to get a visa in the first place.

"ENTRY / EXIT REQUIREMENTS FOR U.S. CITIZENS: The Government of Sudan requires you to present a passport, and an entry visa or entry permit, upon arrival at a port of entry. Most U.S. travelers must obtain an entry visa from a Sudanese embassy before arriving in Sudan. There are two exceptions to this requirement: first, U.S. citizens possessing a Sudanese national identification document (such as a Sudanese passport or national identification card) may apply for an entry visa at Khartoum International Airport. The second exception is for travelers with a sponsor (a business or organization) that has obtained an entry permit for them in advance from the Sudanese Ministry of Interior. ..."

See http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1029.html#entry_requirements

The fun thing is that even if she is allowed to enter, she may not be allowed to leave. What a wonderful thought for us all!

From the same source: "... You must obtain an exit visa before departing from Sudan, as well as pay any airport departure tax not included in the traveler’s airline ticket. Travelers with expired entry visas or residence permits are regularly refused exit visas, absent a written request from the Sudanese sponsor of the visa. ..."

****
Perhaps she meant "Sweden." But nah - Sweden is a country that actually functions.
