BWHAHAHA: WELCOME To Detroit, Mitt Romney. |
|
:smoke: :smoke: " Since Mitt Romney is in Michigan campaigning I thought we ought to take a look back at his “Let Detroit Die” stance in 2009. The former governor of Massachusetts attended two private fundraising events as well as two public outings in Livonia and Detroit. He better hope no one in the Motor City recognizes him.
Mitt Romney was against the auto bailout that turned out to be pretty darn successful (if you call early payback of loans and companies back on their feet successful). This is the same Obama plan that in 2009 Mitt called “tragic…a sad circumstance for this country.” President Obama’s auto bailout plan saved hundreds of thousands of jobs and shored up many communities in Michigan and elsewhere.
Mitt certainly knew how important the auto industry was to his hometown but he pulled a GOP, and only wanted to help the banksters. Mitt grew up in Bloomfield Hills when it was the second or third richest county in America and populated by wealthy auto executives. His father was George Romney, a three-term Michigan governor but also CEO of American Motors. Yes, you heard that right. Now, prior to his failed primary bid against McCain, do you want to guess how Mitt campaigned in Michigan?
Ok, cue Mitt’s loss of the 2008 primary, and now we have Mitt the turn coat, telling everyone they should kiss the auto industry goodbye, “It won’t go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed.”:rofl::rofl:

1. They paid back the loans? |
|
Sounds like a fairy tale to me, it took years for them to fall billions behind and they magically paid it off in a year, outstanding. Last thing I read said Chrysler had paid back part of their bailout loan with........another federal loan from a different program.

" DETROIT — Chrysler paid back on Tuesday $7.6 billion in loans from the American and Canadian governments, paving the way for its Italian partner, Fiat, to increase its control over the Detroit carmaker.
The repayment of loans and interest owed to the United States Treasury and Export Development Canada is a significant milestone in Chrysler’s methodical comeback from bankruptcy in 2009.
- Chrysler was able to repay the loans because it had negotiated new financing with a consortium of investment banks that includes a term loan of $3 billion, debt securities totaling $3.2 billion and a revolving credit facility of $1.3 billion.
The loan repayment was also helped by funds from Fiat, which paid Chrysler $1.3 billion to increase its stake to 46 percent.
Chrysler was not obligated to pay back its United States loans until 2017. In a statement, President Obama said that the early repayment was further proof that government intervention in Detroit’s troubles was a prudent decision.
