Good commentary about Rep. Weiner in the Smirking Chimp. |
|
Ted Rall in today's Chimp: "I would love to live in a country in which lying to the public was cause for resignation. It sure would make for a lot of vacancies in government. But we don't--and it seems weird to hold a sexter to a higher standard than a warmongering mass murderer." The Daily Chimp for Thursday, 9 June 2011 | The Smirking Chimp www.smirkingchimp.com

1. No, I hold US to a higher standard than THEM, it's that simple. |

Our guys need to be better than them. They just do. It's not that difficult, ffs. If our guys screw themselves out of their elected positions they screw us out of decent representation. They need to take their jobs seriously and seriously address issues like Goldman Sachs, health care, war and poverty and working families. This is important shit and they can't be so brazenly stupid at such a critical time.
There's a direct correlation when the strongest voices advocating our positions are silenced by their own COMPLETE stupidity. Weiner made it clear to all of us that his penis is more important than those issues to him. He had to know he'd get caught and send himself straight into oblivion. Nobody pried to get this story. He sent a picture of his penis to the entire internet. And even if he hadn't made that fatal mistake, this was a powderkeg waiting to blow. He USED his position of leadership to troll for ladies. He didn't create an anonymous account to get his rocks off. He didn't TRY to be careful and discreet. No, in fact, he sent pics with his face, his name, photos of his family in the background with this gross egotistical "LOOKIT ME, I'M ANTHONY WEINER, HERE'S MY WEINER!!" shit. To anonymous people. Coulda been Breitbart, Chris Hanson, a minor.

3. I am also disappointed in his recklessness. I wish very much he had been more |
|
discreet and more careful.
I do still think he is a noble man who has fought hard for our side, however. I know I'm in the minority there, but that's how I still see him, in spite of all of this.
I know that he is going to have to step down over this, and it saddens me beyond belief.

5. I get it. Those opinions are not mutually exclusive. |

In fact I think that's what makes this such a quandry... so painful. He was such a strong voice, such a respected spokesperson and it's all in jeopardy.
I also suspect it's only in the early stages. I think there will be additional developments and stories to come out of this mess. Some will be true and some will be terrible lies, but I fear it's far from over.

7. I think you are right. I'll admit,, I am praying every day for him and for his family and |
|
today added his staff members (no pun intended) to my prayers. I am honestly worried for Rep. Weiner and his wife, for the hurt and worry and embarassment and every other bad thing they must be feeling. At this point in the game I just am worried for their mental health through all of this. I am sure he will be forced to resign and I just hope that he will never consider suicide. I'm sure he won't, but some men faced with the end of a career do take their own lives.

8. Bingo. He discredited his Party and its causes.... |
|
...he is now just a distraction and should get out of the way.

4. I Am More Concerned by the Bad Judgment |
|
exhibited by all the legislators who have been "caught" in embarrassing situations.
These are people with whom we entrust our lives and I can't help but wonder about their decision making abilities.
