AYMAN AL-ZAWAHIRI, long al-Qaeda's second-in-command, has delivered his first public comments on the killing of Osama bin Laden, saying in a video eulogy online that bin Laden had ''terrified America in his life'' and ''will continue to terrify it after his death''.

The 28-minute video, The Noble Knight Dismounted, begins with old footage of Zawahiri and bin Laden seated together in a mountainous setting before cutting to Zawahiri alone, dressed in white and seated with a rifle in front of a dark background. He alternates between poetry and verse eulogising bin Laden, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which tracks jihadist communications and translated the video.

Zawahiri heaped praise on the slain terrorist leader, calling him ''the noble emir'' and a ''heroic fighter'' before vowing to continue bin Laden's efforts to ''expel the invaders from the land of Islam''.

3. His pal bin Laden has already won

We've shit-canned our Constitution and treaties thanks to him (or what we imagine he may have done), and the American people overwhelmingly approve. The United States is fairly on its way to following a code and ethics more suited to a criminal syndicate than a civilized nation, all in the name of being scared right down to its socks.

Time will tell if grown-ups can take back control of the country, but I'm not optimistic.
