I've changed my mind, I'm hoping Weiner fights this and stays
At first I thought it was time for him to resign. It was my knee jerk reaction. Yea, it was a dumb thing he did, I still think so. But now that I see all these wimpy Dems not lifting a finger to help him, and all the conservatives gleeful and celebrating this, I think I was wrong, fuck it, he should fight this and stay right where he is.

Especially since it has been reported his wife and the people in his district are still behind him, that is what is important! Why should he bow to all this pressure mainly being generated by right wing professional smear merchants, why let them win?

I don't know what the final outcome will be, but I'm glad he isn't listening to the cowards at the Dem party HQ who are running away from him as fast as they can. They are probably doubly happy that a solid progressive like Weiner is being hanged. That way, there are more conservative and centrist Dems to work with!

and if he is really smart, connect his resignation to Clarence Thomas's resignation as it was suggested at another site. Any time he's questioned by media he should take the opportunity to connect the issue of his being taken out- with Thomas's indiscretions regarding his wife's finances. I think that he should spend as much time in the media as he possibly can.

3. Yes, that is the bigger picture. I'm glad people are beginning to see it.
Dems have no spine as we all know and they have bad judgement regarding these things as they follow the lead of Republicans each time Breitbart et al point a finger at one of their own.

If you have a Twitter acct. EFerrari has created a hashtag on twitter to gain support for him.

Oops, thought I had it here. I will post it again when I find it in this thread.

I don't like the fact that he panicked and lied, but much like Clinton, he was entrapped into doing so. It's not like he has control of the football or anything.

41. I am disappointed that a rare progressive voice left himself so vulnerable.
Yet, he did nothing to be removed from office. He didn't break faith with his constituents interests, and his private life, however fucked up, is not my concern.

Looks like he blew running for president too.

But his boss is politics, and the game continues.

51. The voters will decide
Difference between Wiener and say a Teabagging GOP'er that get's caught with dope or on a sexcapade (gay or straight)? Wiener didn't get elected by Bible Thumping Homophobes. As deplorible and idiotic as what he did was (the lying was the worst), the people that elected him aren't as 'touchy' shall we say about these issues. When your consituents are Homophobics and Bible Thumpers, it's not good when they find out your hired a Male Escort or have been cheating on your wife.

The people that voted him in will decide.

On the soap opera boards it usually takes three days before any rational thought sets in.

But that's only anecdotal observation. Someone really needs to do a study.

21. I agree that he should stay...
Just think about it for a moment. He didn't do anything criminal. He didn't abuse campaign laws. He didn't take kickbacks. This whole thing is an absurd result of our societies obsession with sex and personalities. We need to back off and realize that Weiner is a voice we value and should support. No, we don't have to support his actions but we support his voice and thus we should support him staying.

My God, I mean, I think I would be more upset at him if I found out he didn't wash his hands after going to the bathroom. This thing is absurd. Sure his wife should be mad at him but why are we?

Politically, I think he just has to lay low and wait for the weather to change - and it will.

33. Thanks. I agree with you, quinnox.
I'd rather a congressman be making a fool of himself sex texting than to be sold out to lobbyists. And Weiner is not sold out to lobbyists. For the most part, the ones who want him to leave are.

It would be nice to have someone who wasn't sold out and did not sex-text, but we don't have that choice.

I chose to take a wait & see approach.. but I can understand some of the hard feelings around here. Especially the folks that were defending him from the outset. They feel betrayed because of his initial reaction (lies), but when you take a step back his actions do not warrant the media circus that even til last night has yet to let up.

And when you see who is turning their back on him from the Dem side, c'mon lets be real - Tim f'cking Cain?? I mean when did he ever go after a Repub issue like he did on this one. It's not like he didn't have any opportunities - I am so sick of these conservadems!! Primary all their f'cking corporatist asses!!
