Why Is Jeff Sessions Blocking A Child Sex Trafficking Bill?
http://thinkprogress.org/2011/01/05/child-sex-bill/

In the waning days of the lame duck session, the Senate had the opportunity to pass the Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking Deterrence and Victims Support Act. Aimed at creating “a comprehensive, victim-centered approach to addressing the sex trafficking of minors,” the bill is “the first of its kind to deal with young trafficking victims domestically” by providing $12 million in off-set funding for state and local law enforcement to shelter, rehabilitate, prevent, and protect child victims of the sex trade.

Originally introduced by Sens. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and John Cornyn (R-TX) in 2009, the Senate Judiciary Committee adopted, amended, and passed the House version of this bill last summer which then passed the Senate by unanimous consent on December 9, 2010. The bill returned to the House, underwent further revision, and finally passed by voice vote on December 21, 2010. But when the Senate attempted to pass the bill again by unanimous consent, Sen. Jeff Sessions put a hold on the bill. The sole objector, Sessions effectively defeated its passage in the 111th Congress.

Sessions is pushing back against claims that he believes child victims deserve to be

3. He's probably protecting Dyncorp and Blackwater or something
I think the State Department still uses Blackwater (Xe) as security while traveling.

4. Probably because anything that costs money
but does not directly support corporations or the wealthy is automatically rejected as "increasing the deficit". And we all know how the GOP has decided (and convinced the president, the media and most of the country) that the deficit is the most dangerous thing on the planet!!!! If we don't cut the deficit right f'ing now...we're all gonna die!!!

6. Darned if I know.
Do know someone should be damned over it.

Remember, Mark Foley (REPUBLICAN, Fox viewer) was head of the subcommittee charged with overseeing issues concerning missing and exploited children. Mr. Boehner was one of his bestest chums in keeping his, eh, affairs under wraps.

7. Politics. Push it to the new Congress and then lay claim to it in 2012.

9. Why should he support it?
It doesn't do anything to enable them to use "sex offender" status to control more people. It spends a bunch of money on healing victims of sexual abuse, which is liable to make them more sane, less vindictive, and less liable to continue the pattern of abuse themselves. It doesn't provide any easy outs for the rich and powerful.

That is to say, it's a good, well-thought-out bill, for once.

Why SHOULD he support the bill?
