I Prefer Liberal
A friend today when introducing me to his conservative mother referred to me as a Progressive. I stopped him and told him that while I have progressive views that I consider myself a liberal.

His mom's response....THERE ARE NO LIBERALS LEFT IN AMERICA

Well there is one here.

5. Kind of agree
but here's what I like about the term progressive... there's no confusing it with the more international definition of liberal, or more specifically neoliberal, which means being a red-baiter and being pro-"free market" and pro-privatization

8. Liberal has a distinct meaning in the vocabularly...
Progressive, on the other hand, sounds like a car salesman.

Self-avowed Liberal #5.

9. Me too. IMO, all Liberals are Progressive, but not all Progressives are Liberal. Some
Progressives are Centrist, perhaps more than there are Liberals, a few Progressives could be somewhat Right of Center, like classic Eisenhower style Conservatives. There are no Right Wing Progressives.

19. Funny, i see it the other way. I define myself as a progressive liberal,
to differentiate myself from the the centrist liberals - you know, like Lieberbam used to be before crossing over to the dark side.

10. I'm not sure that "the Left" and Liberal are identical, because Liberal is intrinsicly

inclusive and there are those on what is calling itself "the Left" that are not inclusive of authentic Conservativism. Authentic Conservatives, in order to be authentic must at least consider the possibility of conserving that which is authentically Liberal, whereas "the Right" operates on the principle of excluding all that is not "the Right", IMHO.

12. That's not childish, because their dislike is a manifestation of defensive vulnerability to
the tactical differences between Liberals and the Right. Those tactical differences are strategically important and useful, so your appreciation of their fear is not childish.

20. Liberal here
A Canadian liberal, no less.

Our Conservative party is about the same as your Democrats. Our Liberal party is way to the left, and the NDP are even futher left, and they are considered TOO far left for many here.

I really, really, feel sorry for you guys.

27. I prefer Progressive
to me Progressive seems much more radical than a Liberal. I don't object to Libral I just feel like Progressive is more hardcore ... I guess it's just the different way people look at things.
