I gotta tell ya, it is difficult to avoid the guns as genetalia substitute thing... Although I think the paranoia angle has as much to do with it. And then there is the misperception of threat / inappropriate response school of thought... And I know a few mouthy drunks who gotta have a pistol handy, just because.

7. I've heard the argument for carrying a gun into a restaurant or a bar.

They tell me it's their right to protect themselves in the rare event violence breaks out. Therefore, it's only about personal safety from those who would de them harm.

Since they have a 1,000% greater chance of getting hit by a drunk driver on the way home, I'd think they'd invest another $600 on a helmet, fire suit, and six point harness, but I've never seen it done. I guess they're afraid they'll stand out and look paranoid.
