Deputies revive cat

Deputies Brian Tibbett, at left, and Rodger Burt, at right, administer oxygen to a pet cat found inside of a burning home in La Crescenta on Monday.

Deputies give CPR to cat found inside burning home in La Crescenta

Sgt. Debra Herman of the sheriff's Crescenta Valley station said the deputies responded to a call of a house fire in the 500 block of Glenwood Avenue about 10:30 am.

Upon arriving and finding no one home, the deputies kicked the front door open to allow firefighters to enter.

Inside, they found a female cat that was unresponsive. Herman said deputies Rodger Burt, Chad Plumier and Brian Tibbett administered CPR and oxygen to the cat and revived it.

34. The treatment was correct! High concentrations of oxygen-
I give them an "A" for knowing what they were doing and A+ 1,0000 for caring enough to do so!

36. In a situation without oxygen handy, mouth-to-nose can work
for dogs and cats. The trick is holding the mouth closed tightly enough that air blown into the nose goes to the lungs instead of out the mouth.

38. Understood, for ventilation...
But, to drive out the heavy exposure of carbon monoxide that has attached so well to hemoglobin, you have to realize that this presence of CO has SUCH a high affinity for that hemoglobin over the 21% oxygen in the air (or 17% by the mouth), the best treatment is to get as close to 100% oxygen ... providing that the ketteh is still breathing.

(fortunately, for Mr. Mickey, his human Mom is a registered respiratory therapist who knows how to utilize her gas laws!)

41. If kitty were that out of it, he would give in.
My terrorist cat, who usually has the vets running for hazmat suits, was a real pussycat the last time I took him to the vet after another cat gave him a bad beating and almost killed him. Being on the brink of death, he let them take care of him without fighting back.

22. these weren't cops....
they were deputy sheriffs- a minor point, but sheriffs are responsible for rural areas. They tend to be good guys, who haven't got caught up in the steroid use most big city cops have. They know the people they protect personally, and tend to have a bit more common sense, in my experience.

32. The way Rethugs have been using cops as scapegoats and painting
them as tax wasting, union teat-sucking deadbeats, it might make a whole lot of them decide to come over to the dark side where we mindless followers of the socialist, Marxist Kenyan live. An article yesterday on DU already described how Broward County cops are having a "Leave the Party" party to encourage their members and others in the community to leave the Republican party. This from cops that used to be Rethugs by majority. With their union busting and Medicare destroying overreach, the Dark Lords really did it this time. And all along, I thought we Demos were the only ones that knew how to shoot ourselves in the foot.

26. Good job Deputies...
I had a situation once like this.

Early December in the Mountains, snowing...cold.

A house fire called in. As I arrived I saw several dogs at the front window barking and scared. I made entry and the smart cat ran out the door, while the dumb one stayed on the couch, looking at me nonchalantly. One dog ran out and the other, a pug ran upstairs to where the fire was. Humans at work.

Smoke was heavy and had filled the upstairs. I assisted the volunteer fire department setting up the hose and they put out the fire. Even though a hose blew right next to me throwing me to the ground soaking me. (iced uniform not fun LoL) After the fire got put out, we found the pug, soaked and filthy from the smoke and ash, but ok. I'll never forget that cat who gave the look of, "excuse me, who are you? oh, that's right, I don't care...Zzzzz"
:7
