If making profit it such a great incentive for creativity and invention then why
is that in muti-billion dollar industries such as Hollywood and Video Games we see nothing but sequels and reboots? This is just an example to point out that paying people lots of money does not make them innovative in fact it can often times stifle creativity as people aren't willing to risk losing money on something creative.

1. Because reboots and sequels are low-risk, high-reward.
The best thing ever for a screenwriter is to get hired to write the sequel to someone else's masterpiece. Even if you suck, you're going to make bank.

2. one could argue though that it was that creativity that led lucas to create the
things he need to make his star wars movies. but i know what you mean. the money can't be the motivator. it has to be the passion for the art or the science whatever it may be. how do you get people to invest in something that is not a sure thing? it's not like they haven't done it before.

3. In his early days when he was making the orginal Star Wars
Lucas was a starving artist type. Very anti-corporate Hollywood. Now he is corporate Hollywood and just look at what he gave us: Episode 1.

4. true. one is very creative when they have nothing. you have to be.
It was amazing how he made star wars without the things we have today. That is what made star wars what it became.

Go tell it to Valve. Or Mojang. Or the Terraria guys.

Diablo 3 is one of the most hotly anticipated games of all time. id Software (sic) is introducing a new IP (called 'Rage') this fall, and it looks brilliant. Bioshock Infinite looks equally amazing (and very, very different from its predecessors), and Bethesda's TES IV: Skyrim... ZOMG SKYRIM........

6. Let's look at those.
Diablo is another sequel and while it looks good it doesn't look that different from the first two. Rage looks good as well, though I'm more of an RPG guy myself. Bioshock looks good, but again is a sequel as is Skyrim though it looks very good I'll admit, though not Star Wars the Old Republic good, but we can't all be Bioware.
