Regarding a comment by Rachel Maddow last night... |
|
She posed the question of: If Weiner resigns, what does that solve or improve?
My answer and I think the same one she was alluding to: Nothing. The outrage is nothing more then venting of shiny objects crowd spleen.
As if Weiner's quitting will "suddenly" make everyone in congress moral paragons.
Vitter didn't quit. Why should Weiner?
I'm always amused and fascinated by the short attention span in this country.
We need someone to hang on a pike now and then for no apparent reason other than to satisfy some sort of fake moral outrage.
Only to be outraged again when it happens next week to someone else.
And trying the old, "we are better than that!" argument falls flat too. While we Dem's don't fall into the hypocrisy category as the repukes, we have had our share of reps and senators experiencing the same moral failings as theirs. We just take glee at theirs and thump our chest over ours.
You know the old definition of insanity, "doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different out come each time".
I think we are experiencing moral insanity. (on both sides of the isle) This shit happens over and over expecting that each time the person will resign and "morality" will reign supreme!
I don't know about you all, but I have yet to see a different out come or change in our elected reps.
Flame away, I don't care. I won't reply. Have fun!

1. Agree 100%. And him resigning shows weakness |
|
And we know what the predator party (GOP) does when the see weakness: go right for the jugular.

10. +1 (to the original poster, not you) for not explaining why that is a problem. |
|
It is clear that "...I won't reply." is a dependent fragment and therefore contingent on his statement "Flame away, I don't care."
Percisely why is it stupid to ignore people that are flaming?

4. I prefer not to participate in the hysteria. |

It's so clearly being manipulated by skilled personnel.
And to hear one of the MSNBC guests last night talk about MAYBE there being more 17 year old girls, trying real hard to get the child molesting meme in there........This is a planned assassination and letting Eric Cantor tell us who to give our committee assignments to............for shame!
This does not make Anthony less of a dick idiot. Lots of men I admire for many reasons have been dick idiots. I don't see why I'm supposed to be horrified to find out that he's a dick idiot.

6. I don't care if he stays or goes....if he stays...he has silenced |
|
himself and will be a running joke just like Vitter and his shitty diapers...
we will cringe when we hear the jokes, but hear them we will.

8. Vitter might be a joke but he is far from silenced |
|
He got re-elected without much trouble despite quite a bit of energy directed at getting rid of him precisely because of the embarrassment, and he's in the news pretty frequently without any reminders about diapers and prostitutes.

12. Because if he goes it'll |
|
show creeps like Breitbart that they can throw stuff at whatever progressive they want to get rid of next.
True or false--it doesn't matter, the victim's career and cause is ruined either way. Look what happened to Acorn, when the whole thing was staged to stop voter registration of "the wrong people." When I see how cowardly most Dems are being about this, I despair for our country. If they panic at the mere thought of a congressman's underwear, they'll never take a stand to defend social security and medicare when the game gets rough.

7. What amazes me is how quickly our side forgets |
|
that we are in a fight for our lives here. They take out our people by any means necessary--fake moral outrage, fake grassroots activism, outright violence, phony elections, redistricting--and they never, NEVER abandon one of their own, no matter how morally repugnant, hypocritical or criminal one of them proves to be.

Are the number of people here that would ordinarily be screaming at me about how we need every damned blue dog we can get into office but suddenly keeping a democrat in a seat (that he will win again in a walk) is suddenly secondary to some BS new found ethics. Though apparantly various blue dogs that take part in republican style bribery aren't a problem.

9. Allowing himself to be forced to quit would only reinforce the idea |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-14-11 11:46 AM by DJ13
that conservatives can blackmail any Democrat into quitting that they cant control.
Might as well pronounce the USA as a one party country at that point.
