I am depending more and more upon my inner stillness these days...
... not easy.

Two people close to me found jobs, and one lost a job. It's getting better as a whole, but woe to those who are still unemployed!

The saddest thing is, we recovered from the Great Depression due to massive government spending. Now, the Pubbies will say no! It was WAR... WAR I tell you, it was WAR that saved us from the Great Depression. It was actually the massive spending spree the US went on in the name of war that saved us... killing people never saved anyone.

Now if we could only get them to spend money on that level, but for life instead of death! But you see, the money would be spread around... in war, there are a select group of elites who make all the money.

No amount of tax breaks is going to get a business owner to hire more people. No business owner worth their own salt would hire just because they have the money to do so. That is just plain stupid. The wise business move is to hire more people when a demand for goods or services is increased. That's not going to happen because no one has any money! We need to figure out a good way to put more spending power back with the people.

Supply and demand is the ONLY thing that will increase jobs. There is no sense in creating more supply if there's no one to buy, and there's even less sense in hiring more people to make more goods that no one can afford to buy.

8. Catch-22
We need to spend more to encourage production. No one has money to spend on expensive stuff. Companies can either cut costs of production thus lowering prices making the stuff more affordable so consumers will buy the stuff or go out of business. The easiest way to lower prices is to cut labor costs. The easiest way to cut labor costs is to lay off workers or pay them less. Doing so means less people who can afford to buy stuff. People who need to buy stuff, and have little money, will buy cheaper stuff...which is made overseas.

A consumer economy without consumers is not a recipe for "recovery".

Unless, of course, we are counting on the GI's who survive the expensive wars save up their money and come home (someday) to buy stuff.

those of us with money to spend are hanging on to it, afraid another shoe is gonna drop any minute.

12. LOL! I'd take it!
I'm not afraid of bears:D

When my kids were little I always took a wok and chan with us camping, and did most of the cooking in the wok on the firepit. One night we were getting ready for bed and I heard my middle kid say... bear! I ran out of the tent in my undies... grabbed the wok and chan and beat it like crazy! It got rid of the bears, and got the attention of our camping neighbors... blush... I've never been afraid of bears since! :D

But seriously... a cabin in the woods sounds so good right now.

15. My kids still tease my wife about the time she went chasing after the ....
...tupperware in the windstorm - in her nightie. Twenty-three years later, she's still getting grief.

18. That's pretty funny!
It's been almost that much time for me too. Kids love to see their parents in less than perfect light!

Hey, Tupperware was expensive! We guard it with our life! :P I bet no one runs after the disposable plastic ware you buy at the grocery store.
