Dermatologists Upset Over Child Tanning Ad
MOBILE, Alabama - While most parents are coating their kids in sunscreen this Summer. One company is advertising tanning beds for kids. As you might imagine, that has local dermatologists very upset.
"Honey, I tanned the kids," is a catchy slogan. We found that ad on Club Sun's website. It says kids tan for only $9.95 a month. The company which has tanning salons in Alabama and Florida claims, "A base tan and SPF are your best prevention against sun burn." The ad even suggest getting Vitamin D from sun can prevent Autism in children.
We talked with Mobile dermatologist Dr. Amy Morris, who is not happy with the ads, "most of the sun damage that we get occurs before we our 18 years of age, so, if you are marketing toward minors and kids and they are not knowledgeable enough to deter themselves from getting in the tanning bed then they are going to get skin cancer later on," said Morris.
