Workers’ share of national income plummets to record low
Over the last decade, the share of U.S. national income taken home by workers has plummeted to a record low.
Check out the chart below, compiled by the Labor Department, and posted this week by conservative writer David Frum. It shows that the decline began with the brief recession that followed 9/11 in 2001. But it continued even as the economy picked up again, and got even worse once the Great Recession hit. In the weak recovery since then, workers' share of income just kept on falling.

2. It is because of the Bush tax cuts
Edited on Wed Jun-15-11 08:56 AM by Avant Guardian
Supply side economics causes wages to drop over time.

Tax cuts don’t stimulate demand, WAGES ARE DEMAND.

Wages = Demand

Productivity = Supply

Taxes = Cost of services requested by “We the People.”

3. Gov. no longer serves 'we the people,' but rather 'we the wealthy.' And many Americans
are still asleep doing reflex voting for whomever pushes their stupid not buttons. There is no getting around it. Many Americans are F'en stupid and proud of it ...

5. "any serious action to boost the economy and cut unemployment now seems to be off the table"

Lets just say that Congress and WH have put the workers -under the table!

8. I'm beginning to have serious doubts on Obama's electability in 2012 if the
unemployment numbers are still up. I feel not only workers but older Americans are also being thrown under the table. It's clear his administration sides with corporate interests, banksters and wall street. And the middle class for the most part is eroding rapidly.

We the people take a low priority and many of us have been thrown under the table and our 2012 vote taken for granted because the converse is soooo dreadful. And it's damn clear his principle focus has been on trickle down voodoo economics.

9. Agreed
I have a feeling that many of those whom you describe as taken for granted may simply stay home seeing no alternative. We know the GOP is going to screw us, but when your own party does so (or at least won't fight for your interests) what's the point in going to the polls. It's a matter of selecting between worse and worser, so why bother.

11. I've been quite tempted to just say F it all, because I feel betrayed. If I had
wanted a republican I would have voted for one. Now I feel manipulated, used for my vote and ignored. The thing that really irks me is they keep calling and sending letters wanting more money. Well F them, I have none to give.

One billion from corp. interests and the rest is good enough for Obama IMO for his election. I know some people that are refusing to vote for him or vote period. They've lost interest in the whole place, the entire corrupt system, and just don't care anymore. What a shame. The WH just doesn't get what's going on, but even more distressing is I think they don't really care.

15. I believe you are correct
I am truly frustrated myself with the attitude towards workers and the middle class. I understand that we would not have gotten everything or even very much, but I don't appreciate the lack of attempting to do so on our behalf. I don't know if I will sit out the next one or not, but if it were held today, I suspect I would do so.

10. Not surprising considering workers have no voice in America
Who has time for those pesky little slaves that want real wages, health care, and a little sense of security for them themselves and their family.
This will only get worse until we as a people decide to turn the tables and take the power they hold back. Unfortunately, I don't think this is going the done through proper legal channels, but by force. The entire system is stacked up in their favor and they will not give up control until we force them to.

14. Representing the working people once was what we Democrats were known for.
Guess I'm getting old if I can remember that.

13. Only thing that kept wages up were unions
But we have a lot of rocket scientists who don't understand this simple concept until it is too late for them.
