Sex Scandal Might Bring Down John Boehner - But he didn't send any racy pictures so it's okay!
Boehner has been involved in extramarital affairs with at least two women, according to a new report in the National Enquirer. We don’t normally cite supermarket tabloids as primary source material. But the Enquirer was first to write about the John Edwards’ infidelity, and the newspaper proved to be right on target. And back in the early ’90s, the mainstream press picked up on the Bill Clinton/Gennifer Flowers story after it broke in a tabloid.

In Boehner’s case, the Enquirer gets into specifics–and that gives the story a ring of truth:

Capitol Hill insiders and political bloggers have been buzzing about an upcoming New York Times probe–detailing an alleged affair that the 61-year-old married father of two had with pretty Washington lobbyist LISBETH LYONS.

And an ENQUIRER investigation has uncovered a bedroom encounter that Boehner–second in line of succession to the presidency–allegedly had with LEIGH LaMORA, a 46-year-old former press secretary to ex-Colorado Congressman JOEL HEFLEY.

43. I'M Confused ???
Why is it when a Republi-CON is caught in a sex scandal it is NO BIG DEAL, or it's HIS PERSONAL LIFE AND IRRELEVANT, but when it is a Democrat, oh my goodness the sky is falling and he has to resign for the good of the congress. You can impeach a Democratic President, or force a congressman like Weiner out for breaking NO LAWS but a republi-CON well that's OK. What a bunch of hypocrites.

84. More Republicans have been caught in sex scandals than Democrats
yet Democrats punish themselves worse. I have no idea what Reid and Nancy are thinking. Albeit the Republicans tend to take cyanide (figure of speech) compared to the Dems standing on a live grenade.

Gotta go for the laugh go from a Weiner to a Boner. oh how fun...

3. This is EASY ... ask him if it happened. If he says NO ... and ...
we learn he is LYING ... he needs to resign immediately.

That's the new bar.

He can have an affair so long as we don't know about it, but if we ASK him about it, and he LIES, he has to resign.

The IOKIYAR rule would almost certainly break if they tried to minimize Boehner lying about an actual orange-flesh-and-blood affair (instead of just sending pixels through the ethernet).

people's sex lives?

I'm so sick of this. You can be corrupt to the core, commit all kinds of ethics violations, and even break the law — but it takes sex for people to really get outraged.

Boehner shouldn't be brought down because of this; he should be brought down for all the things he's done to damage the country.

One of the women was a lobbyist. Not sure what angles the other might have had, but illicit affairs with politicians often leave that politician vulnerable to manipulation or even extortion. No reason to assume these women were too lazy to masturbate, they were probably using the affairs to get something else.

I couldn't have cared less about the whole "sex scandal" that's business between him and his wife.

I do care about the lie, the attempted cover-up and just his shear stupidity. If any person is stupid enough to think they can put something they has the ability to create a scandal on the Internet and get away with it makes me wonder how intelligent that person is. :)

That said, I believe if his constituents wanted him to stay, then he should stay. He shouldn't be forced out unless he did something illegal. One thing I give the GOP credit for, right or wrong, is that they circle their wagons around their wounded. Dems on the other hand seem to scurry away like cock roaches when the lights come on. We need to work on that.

edit for grammar

54. Why is this not headline news every night?
We talk about Weiner and his weeny every night for weeks because of some pictures. Your title nailed it!!!

Double standards in our faces!

57. Boehner should be asked about it.
If he lies, nail him.

Honestly I don't really care anymore than I did about Weiner, but the rethugs rank hypocracy over this issue should not be left to stand, man.

62. He was asked about it, back in September, and again in February
and he denied it.

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/politics/2011/02/03/national-enquirer-boehner-had-affairs/

So, the nailing should have proceeded then. But it didn't - perhaps because he didn't post photos on the internet of it. The New York Times article, predicted by the New York Post in September didn't appear. They need something concrete, not accusations that both Boehner and Lyons denied.

67. Well...that settles it
If Boehner did something bad, then what Wiener did is OK.

Seriously, the gymnastics to defend the COMPLETE DUMBASSERY of what the Congressman did is mind numbing.

Both Boehner and Wiener can be assholes at the same time.

Personally, I see nothing wrong in holding our elected officials to a higher standard than the people the lie us into war, steal billions of dollars for personal gain, oppress the poor and underrepresented and are general assholes.

I will bet that there are many people that are in Wiener's district (businesspeople, state reps etc) that would love to run for Congress and will be just as progressive and passionate as Wiener - just hopefully smarter about sending out pics of his dick.

But hey - if tilting at that windmill is working out for you, who the hell am I to say you should do anything different?

70. You are missing the point.
It is the hypocracy of both the DLC leadership, the Rethugs, and the media that are the issue.

Weiner lied, I get it. I would have too. Who would want their private sex life put out for public consumption?
I'm not saying that what he was doing with his sexting and pictures wasn't crass and uncool, but it was not criminal.
If we gave every politician the boot for every crass thing they did, well there would be no government.

So it comes back to the lying.
I'm not happy about it, but I totally understand it.
I would have rather he said, "Yes, I sent dirty messages to some women, so what? Fuck off."
But the media still wouldn't have let it go and it would have all unfolded the way it did anyway.
It was all about 'getting' Weiner. The Lying just gave the Media hacks (looking at you Luke Russert), d-bags like Breitbart, rethug hypocrites, and holier than thou Democrats a convienient excuse to call for his resignation.

The problem I have is that folks are hammering Weiner about 'lying' about his persoal life, when Rethugs and other political hacks lie everyday on the news and there is never anyone held to account.

But lie about your personal life and your 'untrustworthy' and 'damaged goods' and a 'betrayer of trust'....but only if you are pregressive Democrat.
