Visited The Surgeon Today and Learned Something Interesting... |
|
Visited the surgeon this morning as they moved the appointment up earlier due in part to pathology findings with my colon and am waiting a date to go have it removed soon.
Anyhow I was looking at his certifications on the wall and one was from a medical school in California and the other from Baghdad University in Iraq. I asked him after we were done when he came to the USA, he said 1992 so I asked if he witnessed any of OIL AKA Operation Iraq Liberation and his reply was yes with a followup that he was a block away from a missile attack on the opening night of that campaign. I asked if he was injured he said no but some people he was with were. He said the only loss he had was a small Fiat he owned was destroyed.
I then said to him I am at a loss for words to tell you how much I am sorry you had to go through that and the current occupation that has cost not only US troops their lives but the innocent Iraq population as well. He said he was grateful for my compassion.
He said he would make sure I had comfort in his care.

3. Interestingly, Mr. Dixie's doctor was from Iraq |
|
and specialized in the type of injury that led to Mr. d's disability. ( severe leg/foot trauma) Mr.Dixie reported they had a most enlightened conversation, that the dr. was much more "aware" of medical complications and related problems than most "american" doctors he had seen over the last 40 years. They too had a brief discussion of the insanity of the wars, Mr. D said he was very moved by some of the experiences of the doctor.." most people here cannot even comprehend what he went thru in Iraq".

In his new environment, surrounded by colleagues who probably can afford the best of everything & mostly side with the polititians who enrich them further, hearing your comments must have been refreshing.
Take care, rsmith. I wish you the BEST in your treatment.
