David H. Koch funds NOVA
Edited on Wed Jun-15-11 08:59 PM by mattvermont
Does the fact that David H. Koch is a primary donor to the NOVA episode I just watched, diminish the content or make you question the information presented?

1. Was it the program about why the wealthy deserve all of the money, power, and influence?
I admit that I questioned the objectivity of that one.

3. If Koch stipulates any editorial control over the content...
Either directly or indirectly, then it should be considered suspect.

If he's just giving money away unconditionally, then I would say no.

5. he funded the renovation
of the New York State theater in Lincoln Center; it's now named after him; i hate that he gets that publicity but it doesn't make me question the nyc ballet; but a tv program is obviously different, and, yes, it would make me wonder

6. I think Nova is an awesome show, and if he donates to keep it running, that's a good thing.
Also, the show has lots of supporters, including VIEWERS LIKE YOU!

9. I think damnation and salvation aren't usually processed through PBS.
But if he donates to something good, then GOOD! They all should.

12. I have heard it argued that he influences NOVA's environmental coverage...
I've forgotten the reference but one should ask perhaps why NOVA hasn't had a hard hitting climate episode recently? It would certainly be topical and current to do so.

13. I went to the American Museum of Natural History...
...here in New York last week, and almost vomited when I entered my favorite part of the museum.
The David H. Koch Dinosaur Wing.

I wouldn't have even gone in (I've been there a number of times before) except that we had some kids from out of town who REALLY wanted to see it. I did manage to do something that satisfied my urge to spit on his name, without actually doing so...
