3. Even in a refined and decent culture like Canada, the animalism of the sports fan is uncivilizable. |
|
Sad, really.
I had thought that Canada, at least, would be able to civilize its sports fans. Apparently it's impossible everywhere.

7. Not just impossible, it's unpossible. |

Taming and civilising sports fans is the most impossiblest thing possible.

18. Are sports used to mimic war, to have a "civilized" way of using those aggressions, or does |
|
it encourage people to continue to think in "us vs them" terms, fight vs cooperate ways?

21. I think it encourages people to continue to think that the world has to be divided into "us and them |
|
and that it's all about winning in a way that always requires a loser, instead of a win-win way of thinking.
Probably why republicans and teabaggers love and enjoy sports so much more than others. Not always, and not totally - certainly and clearly many liberals enjoy the sports as well. But I think it's the rightwingers who get super involved in the emotional, tribalistic, territorial aspects of sports.

However Brew-ins sounds pretty good to me,
Although I am due beer and travel money, so that could be a bias.
Function not data, I haven't watched if there is any hockey games actually being played.

http://yfrog.com/h3d96qhjit appears he has been arrested. Also this graphic says it all: http://yfrog.com/h443sgzjThere were a lot of really embarrassed Vancouverites who volunteered their time to clean up today, on the plywood covering broken windows: http://twitpic.com/5ciptc
