3. Technically correct: There was no formal declarationof war.
Of course as someone said "A dead body that's been lying in the sun for two days in a "police action" smells just as bad as a real corpse in a real war."

5. So what. The War Powers Act applies to "hostilities"
Edited on Thu Jun-16-11 07:05 AM by MannyGoldstein
Obama's argument is that there are no hostilities.

(And if you think this is not a war... what would you call it if Libya was bombing the White House and other US targets on a daily basis? Would you say that it wasn't war? Would you say that it wasn't even hostilities?)

7. "WAR" is whatever Congress decides it is.
When congress was debating Clinton's impeachment, it was conceded by nearly all concerned that an "impeachable offense" was whatever congress decided one was.

Congress is not like a class of school kids who must find some source for their definitions. If there is no accepted authority on what "WAR" is, congress must establish the definition.

11. The US was ordered to intervene by the UN. This is only a NATO action. We are NOT INVOLVED!

Of course this is all crap.

The UN Security Council mandate was constructed by the State Department to meet its purposes and those of its Oil Potentate partners. The UN does not mandate the US what to do. The UNSC was designed to be controlled by the big powers.

NATO is effectively just an arm of US military action involving European partners. The US contributes 40% of its military budget and a US military general always commands NATO in the role of the SUPREME ALLIED COMMANDER.

It seems that in every way the Libya intervention is a SCAM.
