Poll question: Are we at war with Libya?
I just read that Kucinich credited Bush with consulting Congress on the wars he started. I'm curious as to whether DUers think that our Libyan adventure is a war, given that the US is bombing Gaddafi's palace and other Libyan targets on a daily basis.

(Note that I don't think this has any bearing on the War Powers Act - the Act applies to any sustained hostilities, not just to war.)

1. Dropping explosives on a sovereign nation is war.

2. It's obviously war. The Administration's word-twisting should not be taken seriously.
It is doubtful they believe it themselves.

6. If China were to start bombing strategic military sites within the US
and did so for months straight I suspect the papers would say they were at war with us. Not that they were laying some kinetic action down on us.

7. We haven't been in a war since WWII. Everything else has been a simple military exercise.

8. That's a tough question, in my opinion.
But I went with "not war" because I don't think it qualifies for the constitutional definition of "war" (admittedly there is no agreed upon definition, this is my opinion). Almost since the Founding, Presidents have used the U.S. military without Congressional approval.
