We can replace Weiner with a good person because we have a deep talent pool. |
|
The Republicans are stuck with Vitter because they have no one else to run in his place.

That's rich. I suppose that's why we're still stuck in these damn wars. And Guantanamo. And why we have no public option.
ETA: Saw your response upthread before posting. Sorry for the snark.

you need 'broad' - as in wide coverage - to have the votes to do the things you want to do. In Weiner's district apparently 'deep' is accurate. Not much chance of losing it to a rethug. If I understand correctly.
If we had a BROAD talent pool we wouldn't have lost the House in 2010.

16. We had a 'broad' talent pool leading up to 2010 - |
|
and the fucking blue dogs, who made for that breadth, who voted with the republicans, lost their seats.
Maybe a little more depth and a little less breadth is what is called for.

13. If you're using those three items as qualifications, |
|
then Weiner's votes on them don't exactly help your argument.

17. He supported single payer. |
|
which, quite frankly, is more progressive. He supported the war in Afghanistan, but so did a lot of people. He supported 2008 drawing down legislation.
Those were three things I pulled out of my hat. I'm a socialist, so I could give a fuck unless Democrats move left, not get eaten alive by Nancy Pelosi. Which they won't. And I can't wait to move to a state in which I have a little bit better choice than what I have now.

the House dem leadership and the White House are pushing a more conservative, blue dog style candidate into the race to fill the seat?

8. Exactly.....we will not have another fighter for US for a long time. |

I wish that Anthony Weiner had just listened to my advice and held his ground. But he apparently didn't. And now we lost another important rep.

14. We'll hear about that first... |
|
..and then after the person is elected we'll hear "Well goshdarnit, Obama really wanted (insert progressive legislation here) but that pesky congress!!! Nothing he could do about it. And I mean really if any of you have any suggestions then maybe you should be president!!"
Yeah, here is a suggestion: Support and endorse highly progressive candidates for office who will support a progressive agenda. Not some insider, and not some blue dog, and not someone who will "reach out and work with the other side."

Does that include "talent" like Harold "I never met a woman who didn't belong in the kitchen" Ford Jr?
