1. Yes it is.
Media stays out of his personal life he has no reason to run for the cover of deception. A lie is not a lie is not a lie.

2. You are correct. It is not about texting or sexting.
It is about poor judgement and lying about it when caught. That's too much. He's resigning, which is an honorable action on his part. Now, who will replace him. That's the next subject for discussion. Weiner's over as a subject. He brought the whole damn thing on himself. He got caught in a lie. He's finished.

27. Not a chance.
This isn't about the lying; that's the excuse people give when they don't want to seem too prudishly judgmental about someone else's sex life. (i.e., It's not politically correct to criticize someone's sex life, but everyone agrees that lying is bad.)

No, this wasn't about lying. It was about the stupid photos that stupid Weiner took of his stupid self. Once those photos came to light, there was nothing Weiner could do but try to wait this thing out while Breitbart and his enablers in the MSM dragged the story out as long as possible, releasing a new picture every few days to keep the pot boiling. From the moment the photos began to appear, the media and the rethugs and the milquetoasts within our party were determined (as they were with Clinton) to force his resignation. And note that the Clinton impeachers said the same thing the Weiner-resigners of today are saying -- that it wasn't the behavior; it was lying about it that merited his resignation.)

The "distraction" people attribute to Weiner was not his choice. It was the MSM that chose to incessantly distract itself with this story. They did everything they could do to lengthen it, draw it out, call attention to it, and that would have happened regardless of whether he came clean about it or not. In the end, there was only one possible way to shut them up -- by resigning if you are Weiner (or going through impeachment if you are Clinton).

It was the stupidity and it was the sleazy voraciousness of the press and it was the crude underhanded politicking of the Republican Party. It wasn't the lying.

45. Speak for yourself. Weiner is not over. This situation has revealed
quite a bit about the leadership of this party to many of us. None of it good.

Sex is not shameful. Unless you are the hypocritical party of Family Values. Democrats appear to have taken on that role now. And many people are giving that a lot of thought today.

You are free to move on, after all this party moved on from war crimes so it's not surprising, this 'let's just ignore everything for political expediency no matter how criminal' purposes.

But many Democrats today are disgusted with the leadership of this party and will not move on until the standards applied to sex lies, are applied to war lies and SC Justice criminal lies and to Bank fraud lies.

If this is a standard that has been set, that lies are not tolerable, then we will be looking to see it applied where it actually affects the American public.

16. +1000000000.
I'm so sick of seeing the support he gets on this forum.

He not only lied with vehemence, day after day, while looking people right in the eye (the skill of a sociopath) but he betrayed his marriage vows which are sacred, at least to me they are or should I "get over myself" - God how I hate that demeaning phrase!!

He is a lowlife of the first order and now holding another press conference - Oh Lord! Can't he do anything without being in front of some camera?

I predict he will beat the victim drum over and over - pandering to the very foolish people who are still supporting him.

I used to be a huge fan of his but I feel he disgraced himself, his family, his party and his "fans" by his lying and narcissism.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=1306389&mesg_id=1307298

Lynn Jenkins never has to lie, except by omission, because for some reason, the dogs of the M$M do not tear in to her.

Well, except for the lies she continually tells about taxes, the budget, health care, and almost any other issue. But pay no attention to that, look over there, it's a picture of a schlong!

Too bad some here have the Freeper-like view of "But he's one of our guys, so he shouldn't have to resign- no matter what he did". And don't give me the "Everyone lies, so it's ok" line. I do not lie. I stopped lying when I got out of high school. I discovered at that young age that if you tell the truth, things go much easier for you. Simple concept.

36. It IS about sex - and faux moral outrage. Pretending the 'lie' is the issue is a big fat lie.
No one should have been bothering with his private life in the first place - and that alone gives him the right to protect himself.

You want to get your panties in a knot about lying, I suggest you look at actual important things - the wars, the banks, the environment.

If we can't impeach war criminals and we can't get rid of those who frequent prostitutes (which as far as I can tell is still illegal in DC) then having someone resign because he's a pervy wanker is bullshit.

When we've actually tackled the big stuff then we might be able to discuss this. Until then, I'll repeat, I don't give a fuck about his lies about an embarrassing picture of himself.

And I AM a New Yorker.
