They caved on prosecuting the Bush Administration, caved on the Patriot Act, caved on Wiener, caved on for profit colleges, too name a few... with a record like that, you know that they'll cave again. And god help us all when they do.
And another thing. If so many here are upset with Wiener lying about racy pictures - then why do you let Democrats and Obama get away with pretending that their liberals?

why are you a Democrat?
First of all, the Democratic party is very much a centrist, moderate and left coalition. Secondly, it's really nonsense to claim that all but a few Democrats in the House and Senate are "corporate shills".

since we elected someone we thought was a Democrat. Our party doesn't exist at the national level any more. The NeoDem party doesn't give a damn about what you think. They get their money from elsewhere and it seems that money is all that is needed to win elections.

Seriously - this administration has done everything short of handing the pukes the keys to Fort Knox. And most of the time what was given was given even before a real request was made.
So how are we to remain frightened of the *the other side is batshit crazy* idea when OUR side is so good at giving it up ANYWAY to the batshit crazy side?
We have SERIOUSLY gone beyond the *lesser of two evils* argument. I personally don't think a *vote for me - I enable the batshit crazy side* bumpersticker is going to work for this administration - no matter how many rainbows and fistbumps they cover it with.

54. I don't think they are done, they will just have come full circle |
|
What we have is a fringe radical right party and a moderate right party. What I call the "thinking Republicans" are being driven out of the Republican party and will join up with the Democratic party as they are moderate right centrists and not batshit crazy, cruel and stupid. As more join the Democratic party it becomes more conservative as it is afforded access and more dependable money stream from traditional conservative corporate donors.
In time the progressives, more left leaning members of the Democratic party become extremely dissatisfied with the direction, break off and form a new party that reflects what we in the 20th century had considered to be "traditional Democratic values" -- fighting for labor, the working man, the downtrodden, the powerless and disenfranchised.
As economic times improve and stabilize the crazy Far Right loses steam and dies.
I think this kind of what happened to the Whigs.

It's like the whole f'ing world has gone nuts lately :) Women that support the republicans that want to take away rights from women regarding their own bodies. African-Americans that support the republicans that want to take away their rights. LGBTers that attack supporters. Citizens that were once immigrants that don't want other immigrants to achieve citizenship. And it goes on and on.

Thinking he could lie at those press conferences and get away with it -- even though he knew all those photos and texts were out there.
But I don't think Weiner's downfall will affect the Democrats position on Social Security or anything else. He's not the center of the universe; or even of the Democratic universe.

What I would think as a watershed moment that tells us without reservation, the direction and character of the party. Now many have said that Weiner's actions showed a character defect. However, I maintain that the reaction to his human failings revealed even more about so many others.

|
How then do you explain all your previous disappointments with the party? He was there, but his magic wasn't working!
Get real: there are 435 members of Congress. Anthony Weiner had strengths for speaking up (though only in the last few years), but let's face it: he never managed to get a single bill enacted under his sponsorship during 13 years in Congress.
Whatever happens in the House, good or bad, Anthony Weiner's leaving will have had nothing to do with it one way or the other. So don't say it did.

|
Is going to be intimidated from speaking out because he now knows his own party leadership is going to treat him like someone with a communicable disease.
The republicans know this and they won't back off. The effective spokespersons for liberal causes will be systematically silenced now that they've seen how easy it is for them to do. Sure, they lucked out in that Weiner had plenty of skeletons in his closet but they aren't averse to inventing some if none exist and they know their allies in the liberal media will keep the heat on any targeted Dem until they finally give in and resign.
Once the strong voices are silenced and we're left with a party of Obamas, Pelosis, Reids and Schultzes, I can pretty much guarantee you they will cave.

The POTUS Obama WH and the Democratic Congressional leadership are neo-liberal globalists in foreign, domestic, and economic policy.
The mass of American People have lost a semblance of control -- we are quickly stratifying into losers, those hanging on by fear, the "it could never happen to me crowd", and a globalist financial monarchists. The USA's strength is in the balance of powers and social groups and progressive movements that lift the bottom, protect the weak, and provides opportunity to be productive or even excell to the benefit of family, community, nation, Earth, and self.

6 months ago, they passed a renewal of the Bush tax cuts, saying they had to and had no other choice. That was the final line in the sand for me.
Now they have crossed the Rubicon.
Demanding that Weiner resign just so they can all pretend to walk around like they are pure and innocent is the most hypocritical bullshit I have seen in the last 35 years from the Democratic party.
We need to primary Pelosi because she is out of touch with the regular members of the party. Weiner was 100% pro-choice, 100% pro-equal rights for women, and 100% pro-gay rights. There was no reason for the cacophony of calls for his resignation from the Democratic leadership that Weiner throw away his 14-year political career and just go away.
