Why do people get all worked up over what random people say on message boards?

Once in awhile, I do get irritated by things people say here. I think it depends on how may day/week has been going in real life.

Sometimes I just don't respond to the irritation. Other times, I get upset and snark back. I dunno. I get over it quickly. How do you react?

I think people who come on message boards are upset about something, particularly on political message boards, so venting and getting angry on here is a safe, non-problematic way to release some stress/anger.

You can curse someone out, call them stupid, question their parentage, etc with little harm/recourse/consequences.

I can't say I have a good answer, but as I've learned on other message boards, you just have to decide to spend your time elsewhere.

Once you close the browser window, it's easier to realize there are other things to do, and real live things with whom you can share your time and attention. Closing that browser window is the key. ;-)

That's how I figured out that my S-10 Extreme factory lowered had a shitty design with the driveshaft (two piece on an s-10 :eyes: ). Got a kit online that raised the ass of the transmission 2.5" and lowered the carrier bearing 1"


Also, on a cooking forum, learned the proper way to do ribs on a grill...

Plus, wouldn't it be nice if we could collectively accomplish something? And, in some ways, we have. We've donated something like $15,000 to America's 2nd Harvest. We've raised $50,000 to pay for an operation to save a man's life (it failed, but to even pull that kind of money together was quite a bodacious thing.) We sent 100 dozen roses to Helen Thomas http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x799674 and bought a powerchair for Thomcat, and financial assisance for Mr. Scorpio and others, and that's just off the top of my head.
