Stuff I Learnt on the Internetz
Stuff I Learnt on the Internetz

By NanceGreggs, on June 17th, 2011

After a much-needed and rather lengthy break from the political blogosphere, I decided to check out what’s going on. Oy, what a surprise I was in for, some good, some bad, some OMG-you’ve-got-to-be-kiddin’-me, a lot of it interesting, and most of it incredibly entertaining – if you can just sit back and take it for what it’s worth.

I’ve gotta tell ya, message boards, especially those of the political persuasion, are a veritable goldmine (or minefield) of information, misinformation, opinion, fact, faux news, faux pas, outrage, poutrage, fascination, polarization, deception, conceptual art, artsy-fartsy minimalization and craziness-de-jour to the MAX!

The first thing I discovered is that there is no longer any such thing as the middle class (hey, who knew?). If you foolishly believe that you are middle class, well, I apologize for being the bearer of such sad tidings, but you no longer exist. If you own a decent home, have a good job, are able to pay your bills, drive a serviceable vehicle, and can afford to help put your kids through college, you only live in your own imagination. If you have neighbors, friends, coworkers or family members who also believe they are middle class, please advise them (as gently as possible) that they are deluding themselves. Your middle class communities are a figment of your collective imagination. You actually live in a van down by the river; you’re just too politically naïve to have noticed.

While the Democratic party continues to do its thang, plain ol’ Democrats no longer exist either. Democratic voters now belong to one of at least three dozen or so political subsets, e.g. New Democrats, neo-Democrats, Democraps, Democarpers, Democritters, semi-demi-crats, et cetera.

1. I like this quote:

The Revolution™ is not unlike its Fundie counterpart, The Rapture™; both are figments of the imaginations of incredibly unhappy, often unbalanced people, who desperately desire some cataclysmic event to end the monotony of their miserable lives.

There's really a similarity.

2. I liked that too.
It's a great rant, lots to digest there.

3. Not really.

Revolutions happen all the time (yes, I understand that is not the exactly the same as "The Revolution" to which she refers). The Rapture will NEVER happen, or even anything like it.

5. The "Revolution" in the US is about as unlikely as the Rapture
The point is the misery and the dislike of the way life is now, hoping it will somehow be erased.

6. Reposting a call out of DU on DU.
Nicely done!

Though, taking your ball and going home doesn't really work if you keep throwing it back into the neighbor's yard.

9. If you cannot live off your investments then you are working class.
It's really that simple.

All those who have to work in order to pay the bills have far more in common with each other than with those who live strictly off the return from their investments.

Basically there is working class and owner class with very damn little in between.

It's really not a constructive use of time to post about it though.

Edited on Sun Jun-19-11 06:52 AM by Creideiki
Seems like it should be "democratsforthestatusquo".

Funny thing 'bout labels. Just because you call it something doesn't make it so. I could go to the zoo to see the elephants and call them donkeys, but they're really just elephants.

25. True.
Calling a site something doesn't make it so. Such as calling a site of trolls posing as disaffected Democrats "democratic" doesn't make it so.

23. A bit of denial there
Foreclosure and unemployment statistics be damned.

It gets old to be talked down to all the time.

29. I thought Nance was better than that
Wow.

I used to have a lot of respect for her. But when she labels people with legitimate complaints and problems the "Perpetually Persecuted", I stop listening...and respecting. Like this gem:

Speaking of message boards, you can’t help but notice that people with user names like FedUpForever, IH8TEverything, Born2Lose and F*K-It-ALL, along with non-stop criticism of Democrats on Democratic websites, also complain about being single, friendless and unemployed. I can’t help but think there might be a connection.

Making fun of the unemployed by implying that personality determines your employment status...nothing like kicking people when they're down. I guess all these millions of unemployed people just need to put on a happy face, and unemployment will magically disappear!
