2. I never got to be a Dad - shit I barely got to be a husband. |
|
Now that I'm 56, sometimes I look back with regret.
A few years ago, I was in a big grocery store in Kansas City. It was winter time and it was snowing outside. There was this guy in there with his little daughter. She could not have been more than 4 or 5 years old. Pink sneakers, pink leggings, pink parka, and she was chattering away... "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy" Dad had tied a balloon to the hood of her jacket and it was floating about 5 feet above her head, and she was as happy as a child could be.
All of a sudden in the middle of the aisle, she starts flailing her arms above her head looking for the balloon. He standing there watching her, smiling, and then he bends over and pulls the balloon down so she can see it. She busts out laughing and exclaims "Daddy! I LOVE my Balloon!" And then she hugged him.
Shit like that makes me think that maybe I missed out.

4. That kind of empathy could help make you a good dad! There are lots |
|
of kids near you that could benefit from your caring: mentoring, Boys and Girls Club, Big Brother, community sports coaching, foster care...

3. Thanks, jwirr. Three of our sons' friends have lost a dad this year |
|
due to health issues. Woke up thinking of them. We'll probably get together and do something with the families later today...
It IS an important job - good thing the pay greatly exceeds the work!
Stay (or get) healthy DU dads: you're needed!
